Valero Texas Open odds: Accuracy is paramount at this event

The dust has settled after the glitzy Players Championship, and online betting rages on. The Valero Texas Open’s sports betting lines feature a relatively obscure field, but a few bigger names sneaked into the field with hopes of rocketing up the money list.
Zach Johnson (+1050) has been hot and cold in 2009 golf betting; he has a win and three top-10s but has also missed three cuts. Entering the Texas Open odds, he’s not ice cold, but his showings at the Players and Quail Hollow left a bit to be desired. Well, this is the week that puts him back on top. Not only is he the defending Texas Open champion, he’s 13th on the tour in driving accuracy and that stat is crucial at this tournament. The last five winners cracked the top 10 in driving accuracy that week.
Justin Leonard (+1215) absolutely owns this tournament with three wins at La Cantera. He’s been solid all year and ranks well in all the key accuracy stats on tour this season. That sets him up for success again, as the super-low winning scores force golfers to throw darts in the Texas Open odds.
Is it time to hop off the Anthony Kim (+1815) hype train? Golf betting has been a nightmare for him this season, as he’s finished outside the top 35 four times and has just one top-15 finish. However, since low scores rule the Texas Open, Kim’s aggressive style could finally get him in the win column this week. Expect his tourney to go one way or another – major contention or a missed cut.
Stephen Ames (+2550) is another rare “name” golfer in the Texas Open, but his sportsbook line is generous. He’s struggled mightily in 2009 PGA betting and his four straight finishes outside the top 20 suggest there’s no sign of a turnaround any time soon.
Brian Davis (+5050) may be the week’s top sleeper pick. He’s a total face in the crowd, but his 12 straight rounds of par or better give him the longest active PGA streak in that regard. He also quietly finished fifth amongst a powerhouse field at the Players Championship, so I highly recommend him if you want to go big or go home with your online sports bets this week.
MARCO’S PICK: Justin Leonard has history on his side and Davis is your man if you’re chasing the big money, but Johnson is rock-solid. He’s accurate and he’s the defending champ. Bet on Zach Johnson to win the Valero Texas Open odds.

Marco Sussman isn't too bad on the links, reportedly a five handicap. But, he's great in the sports betting game. He'll watch just about anything you put in front of him, but golf is what really gets his juices flowing. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
