WGC-CA Championship oddsOnline sports betting fans have watched Tiger Woods dominate the “Blue Monster” Course at Doral Golf Resort, so it will be no surprise when he’s the sportsbook favorite in this week’s WGC-CA Championship odds. However, defending champion Geoff Ogilvy is playing some of the best golf in the world right now, and it will be a great challenge for the world’s No. 1 in his first stroke-play tournament since last year’s U.S. Open.

WGC-CA Championship odds: Tiger looks to follow up on past Doral success

  • WHO: 70 of the world’s best golfers
  • WHAT: WGC-CA Championship
  • WHEN: Thursday, March 12 to Sunday, March 15
  • WHERE: Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Doral, FL
  • KEY STATS: Tiger Woods has won this event six out of nine times
  • PICK: Tiger Woods

Last year was the first year since 2005 that Woods didn’t win a tournament at Doral, as he finished fifth. Woods won the Doral Open in 2005 and 2006; when the CA Championship took the Doral Open’s spot on the “Blue Monster” in 2007, Woods won that as well. Tiger’s second-round loss to Tim Clark in the Matchplay event isn’t a big deal, seeing that it was Woods’s first tournament in eight months.

Ogilvy’s three wins in the WGC events puts him a distant second behind Woods’ 14, but the world’s No. 4 golfer has already won a pair of tournaments this year and Ogilvy’s confidence is flying. He dominated Paul Casey to win his second Matchplay event, and Doral would be a good place to continue his run. Before winning here last year, Ogilvy finished third in 2007. Look for him near the top of this week’s PGA odds.

This field will feature the top 70 golfers in the world, so surely there will be other online betting options. Steve Stricker shot a final-round 63 last year to finish T-6 and, besides a missed-cut at the FBR Open, Stricker’s been playing very well with a pair of Top-5s in five starts. Sergio Garcia is coming off a 13th-place finish in the Honda Classic, and was a respectable 15th in this event last year.

Jim Furyk, Retief Goosen and Vijay Singh all finished second to Ogilvy here in 2008, and Furyk has the best shot out of this major-winning trio. Singh is still working himself into shape after knee surgery, while Goosen is coming off a first-round exit in the Matchplay. Furyk made it to the round of 16 and he’s won at Doral before, taking the Doral Open in 2000, along with three Top-20 finishes.

Doral is always a fun event, and the 18th hole, with its famed water hazard to the left of the fairway, has been known to sink the hopes of many golfers. Ogilvy has the temperament to battle Woods on Sunday given his experience in Matchplay events, and Furyk should also be a major contender.

MARCO’S PICK: Woods has been the master of this event, and he actually played well in the Matchplay before running into a hot Tim Clark. Bet on Tiger Woods to make a victorious return to stroke play, and make him your PGA betting pick this weekend.

Marco Sussman isn't too bad on the links, reportedly a five handicap. But, he's great in the sports betting game. He'll watch just about anything you put in front of him, but golf is what really gets his juices flowing. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
