Bet on sports: Vancouver still without Luongo

  • Canucks take show to Motor City
  • East contenders face off in Montreal
  • Atlantic rivals get it on in Philly

Online wagering players will have plenty of opportunity to warm up their NHL betting skills before the weekend, as there are 10 games on the slate in your sportsbook for Thursday night. The marquee match-up comes out of the Western Conference, where Northwest leader Vancouver will visit Central pacesetter Detroit. In NHL Eastern Conference betting action, two of the top challengers to the crown battle in Montreal when the Canadiens host the New York Rangers, and a pair of Atlantic Division rivals will clash when New Jersey heads to Philadelphia.

Canucks vs Detroit odds

The ailing Canucks are struggling in goal, as starter Roberto Luongo and Curtis Sanford are both out with injuries. This could leave Vancouver with 22-year-old Corey Schneider in net, and the young keeper has had a rough start to his NHL career, losing his first two games. This can’t be good going on the road against a Detroit team that is second in the West in goals scored, and the Red Wings are catching fire, wining seven of their last 10 games.

Vancouver has already won twice in three meetings with the Red Wings this year, but that was with Luongo in goal. At home, you have to bet on the Detroit Red Wings, who are likely to be NHL betting favorites.

Rangers vs Canadiens odds

Both of these teams have been given great chances to represent the East in the Stanley Cup finals, and this will be a test of New York’s road prowess against Montreal’s strength at home. This is the first meeting of the season for the two clubs, and the Rangers have taken six of their last 10 against the Canadiens. This will come down to a battle in goal between New York’s “King” Henrik Lundqvist and Montreal’s Carey “Jesus” Price, so expect the hyperbole to get even more out of hand. Give the edge to Lundqvist and the New York Rangers, who will probably be underdogs on the road.

Devils vs Flyers odds

These two are battling to stay in the Atlantic chase, with the Rangers and Penguins trying to pull away. The Devils may be in over their heads with no Martin Brodeur, who often made up for their lack of goal scoring. The Flyers have won seven of their last 10, powered by the prolific duo of Jeff Carter (tied for first in NHL goals) and Simon Gagne (tied for third). The Flyers have won their last three against the Devils, including a home-and-home back in October. Bet on the Philadelphia Flyers, who will be probable favorites to make it four in a row on Thursday night.
