Ovechkin will catch the Bruins napping
Online sports betting: Bruins’ best players didn’t get much rest during the All-Star break
- Ovechkin will begin his annual second-half tear against Boston
- Coyotes will continue solid home play against Ducks
- Sharks will outclass the hobbled Avalanche
After what seemed like an eternity for those who bet on hockey, NHL betting is back. Tuesday features 11 different NHL lines, including a few big inner-conference matchups.
Capitals vs Bruins odds: Tuesday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. ET
The Capitals vs Bruins line offers a solid upset opportunity. On paper, this looks like a sure win for the Bruins. They’re 17-3-2 at home, they lead the East with 73 points and the Capitals have by far the worst road record of any division leader at 11-12-2. However, the All-Star break may provide the Caps with a solid opportunity to catch the Bruins off guard.
Since the Bruins are so dominant, they had a boatload of representatives at the All-Star game – Zdeno Chara, Marc Savard and Tim Thomas. They also had Blake Wheeler playing in the YoungStars game. That means a handful of their impact players didn’t actually get much rest over the break. The Caps had just Alexander Ovechkin in the All-Star game and Nicklas Backstrom in the YoungStars game. Factor in that Alexander the GR8 feeds off spotlight and that the Bruins are also missing Phil Kessel (mononucleosis) and, likely, Milan Lucic (separated shoulder) and the Bruins are ripe for the picking. Pick the Caps to pull off the upset.
Ducks vs Coyotes odds: Tuesday, January 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET
Is it Wayne Gretzky’s coaching or the high draft picks? Either way, the Coyotes are ahead of schedule, sitting a surprising fifth in the Western Conference. They’re getting it done with decent scoring depth and strong leadership from Shane Doan. Speaking of scoring depth, it appears to be the Ducks’ Achilles heel. After Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, no other Duck is pulling his weight offensively. Jean-Sebastien Giguere’s horrible slump also hinders the Ducks’ chances as a legit NHL betting pick these days. Jonas Hiller will keep the game close if he gets the goaltending nod over Giguere, but the surging Coyotes will be too strong at home.
Sharks vs Avalanche odds: Tuesday, January 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET
The powerful Sharks were caught with their pants down a few times over the last month or two, but they look born again after heading into the All-Star break with dramatic wins over Detroit and Vancouver. Even on the road, they’re still the best NHL betting pick in the Sharks vs Avalanche line. Ryan Smyth is playing his best hockey in two years but the Avs still don’t stand a chance with their top two centers injured. Those who bet on hockey have to go with San Jose in this one.
