NHL betting - new-look Flames take their act to Philly
In NHL betting, the dust hasn’t fully settled yet from the trade deadline deals but the show must go on for NHL teams and online sports betting players alike. In marquee matchups Thursday night, the powerhouse Flames, fresh off some major deadline acquisitions, travel to hostile Philadelphia to clash with the Flyers. The Penguins, another busy team on the trade front, visit the Panthers in a crucial battle of Eastern-Conference bubble teams.
NHL betting: with trading season over, teams back in action
- Flames, Penguins shook things up at the deadline
- Flames vs Flyers odds: Olli Jokinen joins a sizzling offense in Calgary
- Penguins vs Panthers odds: Pens suddenly have their depth back at forward
Flames vs Flyers odds: Thursday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. ET
While it remains to be seen whether Calgary will have new faces Olli Jokinen and Jordan Leopold in the lineup in the Flames vs Flyers line, the Flames still look like, ahem, hot sportsbook picks on the road against the Flyers.
Obviously, beating Philly is no easy task, especially since the Flyers are 18-8-4 in their own hostile building. They’ve ground through a vicious schedule of late and, while they did fail tests against Montreal and New Jersey, they managed a big win against Boston Tuesday night. They’re still as deep as any team in the NHL up front and will push the strong-but-slowish Calgary defense hard.
Few teams have played as well as Calgary of late, though. Led by Jarome Iginla and dynamic sniper Michael Cammalleri, who is returning to his 2006-2007 form, the Flames are filling the net. They’re also winning online betting fans over with their swagger, pummeling any team who isn’t among the top contenders.
For any NHL lines fans picking the over/under in the Flames vs Flyers odds, pick the “over” and reap the rewards .These two offenses are really rolling and they’ll treat the fans to a wild one. In the end, pick Calgary to pull off the minor road upset in Philly.
Penguins vs Panthers odds: Thursday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET
Not many NHL betting fans would’ve expected a Penguins/Panthers tilt in March to have massive playoff implications, but Thursday’s game sure does. As many teams do, the Penguins have responded to their midseason coaching change, rattling off six wins in seven games. They’ve done so with Sidney Crosby shelved with an ankle injury for much of that time. With Sid returning, Chris Kunitz making an immediate impact since arriving via trade last week, and Bill Guerin joining the lineup on deadline day, the Penguins suddenly have their forward depth back.
The Panthers won’t go quietly – they’ve beaten the Eastern Conference’s best sports betting contenders over the last month – but the Penguins’ magic is returning. They’re suddenly back in the race and the new arrivals seem to have energized them, so it’s time to start picking them at the sportsbook again. Bet on the Penguins.
