The Detroit Red Wings climbed to the top of the Western conference standings by setting an NHL record with 21 straight home wins. Their next home game will be a true test of just how far the team has come over that run. The Red Wings have been eliminated from the postseason in each of the past two years by the San Jose Sharks, and while neither team will be eliminated after these teams meet again for a matinee game this Sunday, it could very well be a preview of what is to come once the playoffs get underway.

Detroit’s record run increased the gap between them and the Sharks to 12 points in the West standings, although both teams are in good position within their own divisions. San Jose is in the middle of a season-high nine game road trip, and there is really no debating that this will be their toughest stop.
