Devils vs Rangers Betting Odds – Tired Devils to falter against streaking Rangers

Posted by Don Melrose on 1/12/2010 2:53:13 PM

NHL Odds: Pick Rangers -110

The Devils vs Rangers betting odds sets up a matchup of two playoff teams in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers are 8-1-3 in their last 12 games while the NHL betting crowd should be weary that this will be the fourth game in five nights for the Devils, who might be a little spent.

The New Jersey Devils are the top team in the Eastern Conference as of now but they are enduring a tough little stretch of games that online betting cappers need to be aware of.

The Devils hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday and as they were trailing 3-0, the lights at the Prudential Center went out. After a two-hour delay, the league was forced to postpone the finish of the contest until Sunday.

On Saturday, the Devils took on the Montreal Canadiens, which resulted in a 2-1 overtime win, and then finished up their game with the Lighting on Sunday. After a day off on Monday, the Devils will take on the Rangers on Tuesday night.

The Rangers have played very well recently, losing just once in regulation over their last 12 games. In that time, they have been able to pick up 19 of a possible 24 points.

The Devils have typically been a rough matchup for the Rangers because the Rangers don’t have enough offensive weapons to penetrate the Devils defense. The same is still true for the Rangers as Marian Gaborik has 28 goals while the next best scoring weapons for New York – Ryan Callaghan – has just 10 goals.

You can expect a very low scoring contest on Tuesday and the sportsbook odds indicate that. The total is set at five and considering how hot both goaltenders are, under might be a good play.

DON’S PICK: Overall, though, stick with the Rangers who are streaking right now. Combined with the Devils fatigue, they should be able to get by in a 2-1 or 3-1 type of contest.
