Phoenix Coyotes Odds - Coyotes remain NHL’s laughing stock
The Phoenix Coyotes odds to win the Stanley Cup are the worst in the Western Conference, but at this point, nobody is paying attention to the team. With management mired in a long legal battle and head coach Wayne Gretzky resigning days before the start of the season, online betting cappers know that the on-ice product isn’t anyone’s focus right now.
Phoenix Coyotes odds: +10000 to win Stanley Cup
- Gretzky resigning right before the start of the season is an ominous sign
- Coyotes still young up front
- This is a lame duck season for the Coyotes as they prepare for drastic changes
Phoenix Coyotes odds maker breakdown: OFFENSE
Sportsbook odds makers know that the Phoenix Coyotes offense is a big question mark heading into the season, which is why their odds are so long. When you’re banking on guys like Matthew Lombardi, Peter Mueller and Scottie Upshall as your frontline scorers, the team is going to struggle. Shane Doan still leads the way but he still doesn’t have enough support. If Kyle Turris could make the jump the big club and be an impact player - and they played with lots of confidence - then the Coyotes might have enough for two decent lines of scoring. That’s a lot of ‘ifs,’ though.
Phoenix Coyotes odds maker breakdown: DEFENSE
The Coyotes defense is so-so, which is why NHL betting cappers aren’t too excited for this team. You can find a worse top three than Ed Jovanovski, Adrian Aucoin and Zbynek Michalek, but these guys aren’t going to be shutting down top-flight scorers either. This is an aged, veteran group and there aren’t many bright prospects ready to break out here either.
Phoenix Coyotes odds maker breakdown: GOALTENDING
The Coyotes were lauded when they picked up Ilya Bryzgalov to be their No. 1 goalie but he didn’t perform well last year. Part of it was the defense in front of him, but he needs to be a rock for this team if they plan on going places. This is a make or break year for him. Pundits are questioning whether he was just the product of a good Anaheim team before, and whether he can actually be a No. 1 goalie in any situation. So far, people are leaning with the former rather than the latter.
Phoenix Coyotes odds maker breakdown: SPECIAL TEAMS
The Coyotes scored on just 14.7% of their power plays last year, which was third worst in the NHL. Considering they haven’t exactly upgraded their forwards, they’ll be counting on a lot of player development to improve this area of the team. Phoenix was also one of the worst penalty killing teams in the league last year, killing off just 76.8% of their shorthanded situations. The Coyotes have horrible special teams but there is no clear indication that anything will change.
Phoenix Coyotes odds maker breakdown: SEASON OUTLOOK
Dave Tippett may be a good fit as a head coach for this young team, but how much of an impact can he make taking over the team just one week before the start of the season? The Coyotes are a team without direction on and off the ice, and without a real foundation for the future. It’s going to be a tough season for them as legal battles take place for ownership, and while they’ll try to keep their focus on the ice, they just aren’t talented enough to make any type of a splash in a crowded Western Conference.
