The Hurricanes have won six straight games and nine straight at home
Something magical is happening in Carolina right now. The ’Canes are seeking a franchise-record 10th straight home win and have won six straight overall. Last week, they marched into Florida and New Jersey and came out on top. The secret to Carolina’s surge up the Eastern Conference standings may be the return of two old faces. Since former stalwart head coach Paul Maurice took over the team, the ’Canes have gone 30-17-5. The other key homecoming affecting Carolina’s sportsbook odds is that of Erik Cole, who came back in a trade deadline day blockbuster. Cole has 10 points in 12 games since his return. Carolina’s record in that span: 9-1-2. Cole has helped the Hurricanes – and especially Eric Staal – regain their personality as a big, physical team that bludgeons opponents with a powerful forecheck. It’s been an up and down season for the New York Rangers, but it’s been more up than down lately. They regained online betting fans’ confidence by going 8-4-1 in March. Like seemingly half the teams in the league, the Rangers have also benefitted from a coaching change and deadline acquisitions. Fiery bench boss John Tortorella has the Rangers at 9-5-2 since he took over .Underrated trade-deadline boon Nik Antropov has shown he wasn’t just the product of first-line minutes in Toronto, notching six goals and 11 points in 13 games as a Ranger. Hate him or not, Sean Avery has resumed his role as catalyst for the Rangers, scoring 10 points in 13 games since rejoining the team. Not bad for a supposed goon. DON’S PICK: The Rangers are righting the ship slowly but surely and goalie Henrik Lundqvist has been fantastic, but the Rangers are, pun intended, heading into the eye of the Hurricane on Thursday. Carolina looks unstoppable at home and – dare I say it – is starting to resemble the Stanley Cup betting champion squad of 2006, especially with Cam Ward stopping pucks like he did in his Conn Smythe run. Bet on Carolina to ride the crowd to a win in a physical affair. For more NHL lines and picks as we approach Stanley Cup betting, check out the Betting Edge at BetOnline.com.
