NHL betting – Sabres, Ducks safe bets on Wednesday

Posted by Don Melrose on 9/4/2009 12:16:26 PM

Senators vs Sabres odds – Wednesday, February 11 – 7:00 p.m. ET

Online sports betting handicappers will get to see the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres square off on national television on TSN this Wednesday night.

The Senators have been fun to watch under their new head coach, Cory Clouston, as he’s implemented an aggressive brand of hockey that has reinvigorated the Senators. The Sens are 1-1-1 under their new head coach but finished with 42 shots in their last game. They had only cracked the 40-shot barrier four other times this season.

Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller should be ready for whatever the Sens throw at him, as he’s been smoldering hot of late. Miller is 11-3-1 in his last 15 games and has allowed just four goals in his last four outings. He's playing so well, people are starting to think Buffalo and Stanley Cup odds.

Offshore sportsbook odds favor the Sabres and they should be poised to earn at least a split in their home-and-home series with the Senators. For the Senators, this game starts a rough stretch of five games in seven nights, so don’t be surprised if the honeymoon period with Coach Clouston wears off by the end of the trip.

Flames vs Ducks odds – Wednesday, February 11 – 10:30 p.m. ET

If the playoffs started today, the Anaheim Ducks would be one of the eight qualifiers but not by much. Vancouver, Minnesota and Edmonton are within three points or less, which is a cause for concern.

The Ducks have played an NHL-high 56 games this season and the aforementioned three teams all have at least three games in hand of the Ducks. Anaheim will play just three games in the next 12 days, starting on Wednesday when the Calgary Flames visit.

The Flames are cruising in the Northwest Division with an eight-point lead but online betting sharps know that they have struggled on the road. While the Flames are 20-7-3 at home, they are just 11-11-1 away from their comfy confines in Calgary.

That could become a serious problem for the Flames because they have already played 30 home games and just 23 road games, which means they’ll be on the road quite a bit to end the season. The Flames have lost their last three road games and three of their last four overall.

The Ducks won the first game of this home-and-home meeting and, given the way the Flames have played on the road this year, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Ducks sweep this two-game set.

DON’S PICK: Bet on the Sabres and Ducks on Wednesday night as both teams close out their home-and-home series.
