In horse racing betting this Saturday, some of the nation’s top filly and mare turf specialists will be in action in a pair of highly competitive events. First, the three-year-olds will do battle in the Grade 2 Sands Point at Belmont Park. Later in the afternoon, older fillies and mares will head postward in the Grade 1 Gamely at Hollywood Park. With no clear-cut favorite in either race, the exotics could offer some value if you’re looking to bet online.
In The Sands Point, morning-line favorite #4-Gozzip Girl figures to attract plenty of support off her game second in the Grade 1 Ashland on Keeneland’s poly track, preceded by a pair of stakes scores on grass at Gulfstream Park. She’s 3-for-4 lifetime on the sod, and owns the field’s best turf Beyer (91). She’ll be tough, but I’m looking elsewhere for the winner.
#7-Magical Affair (morning line odds 2-1) is a regally bred filly that brought a price of $1.55 million as a yearling. She’s lived up to expectations thus far, finishing first or second in all five career starts. She was knocked off stride at the start last out in her stakes debut, and rallied strongly for second. She should relish the extra distance of this 1 1/8th-mile affair, and I expect her to get the money with regular pilot Julien Leparoux in the irons. I’ll bet her to win at odds of 8-5 or better, and use her over #1-Bluegrass Princess, #4-Gozzip Girl and #5-Fast Tigress in the exacta.
The Gamely is a more puzzling affair, as several of the major players have taken turns beating one another. With the possibility that #1-Tuscan Evening will be scratched, the pace-setting duties will likely fall to #8-Ainamaa, one of the less accomplished mares in this high-class field. However, if she’s allowed to lope along on the lead, it could pose a problem for the come-from-behind types like #2-Bel Air Sizzle, #6-Visit, #10-Black Mamba and #11-Lemon Chiffon. I’ll bet on the classy #4-Diamond Diva to win at odds of 2-1 or better. She had an excellent prep race, finishing second in the Grade 3 Wilshire off a 10-month layoff. Jockey David Flores has ridden her to a pair of wins and a second in three trips, and should be able to work out a beautiful stalking trip. I’ll also play exactas with #4-Diamond Diva over #7-Magical Fantasy and #10 Black Mamba.
When you bet on horse racing, try to find a horse to key on, then you can structure your exotic wagers around your key. If the key wins, but the exotics don’t hit, you should still show a profit for the race. If the exotics hit, then you’re looking at a score!
Happy gambling!
