Belmont Stakes Betting – Nehro Claims Triple Crown Glory
Online betting players have witnessed some exciting horse racing so far this year in the Triple Crown races, and the final jewel will be run on June 11th. The Belmont Stakes is considered the ultimate test for thoroughbreds as it’s a grueling 1.5-mile race, but this year’s winner will be ready to go after skipping the Preakness Stakes.

The Favorites
Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom came up just short in the Preakness as his late rally wasn’t enough to top the speedy Shackleford. Still, it’s promising that Animal Kingdom’s best work comes late in the race in regards to the Belmont, a 1.5-mile race, if he is entered, he’ll be one of the favorites. Nehro should also be in the field after skipping the Preakness, and he was coming on strong in the Kentucky Derby, finishing second to Animal Kingdom. He’ll be well rested, so look for a solid run from Nehro.
Shackleford will be near the top of the list of favorites for the Belmont, but he’s more of an early-race horse, as his blistering quarter-mile proved at the Preakness. He also set the pace at the Kentucky Derby, so look for Shackleford to race out of the gate, but a mile and a half is a long way for a horse, and he hasn’t proven that he has the stamina to hold up. Dialed In would be a much better choice if his stable decides to run him in the Belmont, and he definitely improved, finishing fourth in the Preakness after a disappointing eighth-place run at Churchill Downs. Trainer Nick Zito would be going for his third win at the Belmont.
The Second Tier
Mucho Macho Man fell back a bit, going from third in the Kentucky Derby to sixth in the Preakness, but it’s not even certain yet if he’ll be at Belmont Park. He’s been one of the busier three-year-olds on the circuit with 10 races since last July, and that’s a lot of work for a thoroughbred. Astrology could be a consideration after finishing third in the Preakness, and he may have the genes for it; his sire, A.P. Indy, won the Belmont in 1992. Mr. Commons challenged briefly at the Preakness before fading to eighth, but he could be poised to make one more run this season after four races.
Dance City is a possibility for horse betting players after finishing fifth in the Preakness, and he definitely held his own with the big boys, which is encouraging for a solid run in New York. Trainer Todd Pletcher will be going for his second win at the Belmont, and Dance City may be his best chance.
The Darkhorses
This should be a larger list once the field is finalized, and right now, you could throw in the last five horses to cross the wire at the Preakness. Flashpoint was the biggest disappointment as he was neck-and-neck with Shackleford, but then it was like he just gave up and ended up finishing dead last. That’s not promising if you’re looking ahead to a 1.5-mile race. Sway Away and Concealed Identity were never factors in the Preakness, and they may not even make it to the Belmont. Midnight Interlude is another horse who may have to sit this race out because he’s underperformed badly in the Triple Crown races thus far, finishing 16th at the Kentucky Derby and 13th at the Preakness.
Stay Thirsty is in this group as well after finishing 12th at the Kentucky Derby, and he sat out the Preakness, which should keep him fresh. Santiva is another horse who was on the sidelines after Churchill Downs, where he came in sixth.
How The Race Will Play Out
It’s difficult to predict until the field is set, but the early pick is Nehro, especially as he is rested after skipping the Preakness, and he was right there with Animal Kingdom in the Kentucky Derby. These two could end up going head-to-head once again, but Animal Kingdom has been busy lately, and it’s tough to know how much he has left in his legs after top-two finishes in the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
Shackleford and Animal Kingdom are both in the running to become the 10th horse since 1997 to win two Triple Crown races, but Nehro will make it the third consecutive year that three different horses have captured these races. Take Nehro as your early sports betting pick.
