Breeders’ Cup odds: Friday races

  • WHO: The Top Thoroughbreds Worldwide
  • WHAT: Breeders’ Cup Races
  • WHERE: Santa Anita Park
  • WHEN: Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25

The Breeders’ Cup betting pictures is still somewhat muddled, but by the pre-entry deadline on Tuesday, October 14, we’ll have a pretty good idea who’s going to show up where. Some horses, of course, will be double-entered, which means we’ll have to read the tea leaves a bit during the course of our early handicapping work.

Past performance info on all 14 Breeders’ Cup races will be available from Daily Racing Form on Thursday, October 16. In the meantime, we’ll have to gather whatever tidbits we can from a variety of sources to speculate on Breeders’ Cup lines.

Following is a brief look at the likely composition of the five BC races for fillies and mares on Friday, October 24. I’ll follow up in Part 2 of this article with the nine remaining races on potential Breeders’ Cup odds for Saturday, October 25th.

Friday

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint: Likely starters (in no particular order) are Indian Blessing, Dearest Trickski, Indyanne, Lady Sprinter (the mystery horse who dominated dirt sprints in Argentina), Zaftig, Intangaroo, Wild Gams, Tiz Elemental, Ventura, Magnificience and Tizzy’s Tune.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf: Emmy Darling, C Karma, Rainbow View (possible, but more likely to go in the Juvenile Fillies), Abbott Hall and Laragh.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies: Sky Diva, Stardom Bound, Rainbow View (probably winds up here), Evita Argentina and Van Lear Rose.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf: Lady Marian, Folk Opera, Goldikova (may opt for the BC Mile), Forever Together, Dar Re Mi, Dynaforce, Hostess, Mauralakana, Black Mamba, Halfway to Heaven, Sealy Hill, Vacare, Wait a While and Michita.

Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic: Carriage Trail, Zenyatta (the unbeaten favorite), Hystericalady, Cocoa Beach, Music Note and Santa Teresita.
