  • Who: Thoroughbreds – Mastery, House of Grace, Beautician, Forever Together, Ventura, Careless Jewel

  • What: Breeders’ Cup Betting Tips – Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Card

  • Where: Santa Anita

  • When: Friday, November 6th

Due to space constraints, I won’t be able to list all the reasons for my selections below. Rest assured that I’ve spent countless hours studying these horses, and have taken every significant racebook handicapping factor into consideration, including class, speed figures, connections, recent form, race shape, surface/track condition, post position, clocker comments, etc.

BC Marathon

1st – Mastery: A true stayer from a top barn. Decent effort on poly-track in his 3YO debut. Has tactical speed. Very classy, with upside.
2nd – Father Time: Finished behind Mastery in his last pair while being sent off at shorter odds.
3rd – Cloudy’s Knight: Trainer Sheppard has done a great job with this 9YO gelding, winning a pair of Grade 3’s off a 1–year layoff.

BC Juvenile Fillies Turf

1st – House of Grace: Her career debut at Saratoga was impressive, and she handled the surface switch/jump to stakes company last out. She’ll be rolling late.
2nd – Lillie Langtry: Odds-on in her last three stakes tries in Europe, with a pair of wins. She’s the most accomplished runner in the field, and note she won her only start over a left-handed course.
3rd – Junia Tepzia: There’s no telling how good this one is…she won both starts in Italy comfortably.

BC Juvenile Fillies

1st – Beautician: Had a horrendous trip last out in The Alcibiades. There’s no Dixie Chick in here...with racing luck, she’ll be tough.
2nd – Negligee: Got the best of the top pick last out at nearly 13-1. Post 10 makes her job a bit more difficult.
3rd – Blind Luck: Owns the home court advantage, and figures to run well. Top three choices are hard to separate.

BC Filly and Mare Turf

1st – Forever Together: Gray mare won this race last year, but has lost three of five since while favored. She’ll appreciate the firm course and 1 ¼-mile distance, and the price may be better than you’d expect. Champ defends her crown.
2nd – Midday: 3YO defeated older fillies and mares in the Group 1 Nassua Stakes at this distance. Has done well on left-handed courses.
3rd – Magical Fantasy: West Coast champ doesn’t win by much, be she finds a way. She’ll be charging late.

BC Filly and Mare Sprint

1st – Ventura: She was awesome in this race last year, and looks even better now! They’re all running for second money...BEST BET OF THE DAY.
2nd – Informed Decision: She’s 6-for-6 on synthetics...but this is a different type of synthetic. Should round out the chalk exacta.
3rd – Sara Louise: She’s been getting rave reviews for her recent work on Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface. I’d use her along with Informed Decision underneath in exactas and trifectas.

BC Ladies’ Classic

1st – Careless Jewel: This gray streak breaks form the rail, so expect her to lead the field on a merry chase. She’s training brilliantly at Santa Anita...could be long gone.
2nd – Music Note: Finished 3rd in this race last year, and is a much better horse as a 4YO. If the top choice falters even slightly, this one will pick up the pieces.
3rd – Cocoa Beach: Ran 2nd in this event last year behind Zenyatta, but hasn’t been quite as good this year. Clockers’ comments have been very positive, so expect a top effort.

Those are my Breeders’ Cup betting tips for Friday’s card. Stay tuned for Saturday’s picks later today. Also, be sure to check out Breeders’ Cup Matchups and horse racing betting props at BetOnline.com.
