The babies are running for big bucks this Saturday at Delta Downs, and the eyes of the horse racing world will be upon them. Nine juvenile fillies are entered in the $500,000 Delta Downs Princess (Grade 3), to be run at one mile. Immediately following the Princess, a field of ten 2YO’s will line up for the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot (Grade 3), at a distance of a mile-and-a-sixteenth. We’re handicapping for what is expected to be a fast track.
It’s hard to picture a front-runner winning the Princess, with several speed types likely to battle it out for the early lead. Included in that group are Grandacious, Fiscal Policy and All About Allie. With a short home stretch of 660 feet at this ¾-mile oval, I won’t be looking for any deep closers either. Promise Me a Cat, the 5-2 morning line favorite, appears to have the proper running style to capture this affair. Regular rider Javier Castellano retains the mount on this New-York shipper, and it’s nice to see a quick 3-furlong breeze over the local strip. Promise Me a Cat owns the field’s top Beyer Speed Figure (92) by a wide margin (15) over her nearest competitor, and her breeding suggests she should handle the one-mile distance. A stalk-and-pounce trip should propel her to victory. The undefeated (4-for-4) Perfectly Candid is bred to go long, and this Indiana-bred defeated open-company allowance foes last out from off the pace. She picks up the services of Pat Valenzuela, who’s in from the left coast to pilot Clubhouse Ride in the Jackpot. Perfectly Candid is worth a flier in the exotics.
The Jackpot looks like a scramble, with the eventual favorite likely to go off at 3-1 or higher. It’s easy to make a case for many in here, but I’m taking a stand with Clubhouse Ride, a colt that appears to be undervalued at morning line odds of 10-1. Clubhouse Ride won his only dirt start in a restricted stakes at Fairplex Park with what some have described as an Arazi-type move on the backstretch. His connections insist he’s been crying out for more ground, which is supported by a lofty Tomlinson figure of 421 for the 1 1/16th-mile distance of the Jackpot. The colt’s 7-furlong work in 1:25 1/5 on November 11th signals his readiness. Look for him to make a big move from mid-pack heading into the final turn and score at a juicy price.
Those are my horse racing betting tips for the weekend. Best of luck and happy gambling!
