  • Who: Thoroughbreds – Annabill, It’s a Bird

  • What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – Florida Million Card

  • Where: Calder Race Course

  • When: Saturday, November 14th

Calder’s Florida Million Card on Saturday includes eight stakes races (races 4-11) for Florida-breds with purses ranging between $100K and $200K. For racebook purposes, we’ll take a look at the two big races, The Elmer Heubeck Distaff Handicap ($200K) and The Carl G. Rose Classic Handicap ($200K).

In The Heubeck, Annabill is far and away the leading money earner ($694K), and most of it was earned at Calder. She returns from New Jersey, where she hit the board in just 2-of-6 starts, with no victories. Her Calder record is another story, however. Annabill owns an outstanding record of 33-16-8-3 ($582K) on the Calder main track, and got a local breeze under her belt on November 7th. She lost this race last year by a nose at odds of 2.40-1, and figures to wake up in this spot at generous morning-line odds of 6-1. This shapes up as a rather paceless affair, however, and Marty Wolfson’s mare Jessica Is Back could be the beneficiary. She picks up the services of Julien Leparoux, who’s fresh off a trio of victories in last weekend’s Breeders’ Cup. Jessica Is Back has done well at Calder (15-5-4-1; $154K), and earned a bullet for her 4-furlong breeze on November 9th. Even Road has finished first or second in her last nine starts, and should hit the board. I’ll use #3-Annabill over #5-Even Road and #6-Jessica Is Back and in exactas and trifectas.

It’s a Bird has faltered in his last three starts since winning The Lone Star Park Handicap at odds of 1-2 last May. Perhaps the return to non-graded stakes company will be the key, after facing the likes of Rachel Alexandra and Macho Again. He owns the field’s top Beyer Speed Figure (107 on three occasions), and the aforementioned Julien Leparoux is back aboard. Too Many Toyz owns the field’s top last-race Beyer (98), but that came against first-level optional claiming company. This is It’s a Bird’s race to lose. I’ll play him to win at betting odds of 4-5 or better.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for this weekend. Best of luck and happy gambling!
