Horse racing odds - Fair Grounds All Stakes Pick 5 Looks Hitable

Posted by Pete Mitchell on 9/10/2009 7:48:30 AM

Horse racing betting: Saturday’s All Stakes Pick 5 looks very affordable

  • WHO: 2YO Colt It Happened Again is the key.
  • WHAT: Horse Racing Odds – $.50 All Stakes Pick 5
  • WHERE: Fair Grounds
  • WHEN: Saturday, December 20th

Fair Grounds is making Saturday’s All Stakes Pick 5 (Races 5-9) affordable for the average bettor by offering a $.50 minimum wager. Let’s structure a ticket and try to hit this thing! The weather through Saturday shouldn’t be a factor, so we’ll assume that both grass events (Races 6 and 8) will remain on that surface.

Race 5: I’ll use #1-Leigh McLovin (ML of 3-1; win over the track; favored in both starts), #2-Linnea (ML 9-2; won grass debut…should be even better on dirt), #3-She’s Extreme (ML 5-2; beat winners last out), and #5-A Day for Dancing (ML 7-2; field’s only stakes winner; ran second to Breeders’ Cup entrant in latest at FG).

Race 6: I’ll use #1-Chamberlain Bridge (ML 2-1; sharp now; likes course; three-for-three with Theriot aboard), and #7-Storm Treasure (ML 7-2; ran third in BC Turf Sprint; won most recent FG turf try).

Race 7: I’m spreading here with #1-Adhrhythm (ML 8-1; field’s top earner; four wins in 2008; been working well at FG), #2-Kalookan Dancer (ML 10-1; note trainer switch from Solis to O’Neill; appears to be more effective on dirt), #5-Secret Gypsy (ML 3-1; second in G2 Raven Run at Kee; top last-race Beyer; trainer/jockey combo clicking at FG), #6-Cosmic Belle (ML 12-1; live longshot is three-for-three on dirt…horse racing odds appealing; sharp blowout for this), and #11-Control System (ML 6-1; in good form; multiple stakes winner on Aqu Inner Dirt).

Race 8: I’ll use #2-Jimmy Simms (ML 7-2; nice try in G3 last out), #4-Naturalyontherocks (ML 8-1; handy debut winner on synthetic; bred for turf and distance), and #6-Myboycharlie (ML 5-2; Group 1 winner in France; wired field last out at FG).

Race 9: I’m singling #5-It Happened Again (ML 8-1; his juicy horse racing odds could make this ticket highly profitable; impressive maiden-breaker at Pha; trainer Jones is high on this 2YO; fired bullet in final FG work; can sit off expected hot pace).

The $.50 All Stakes Pick 5 ticket looks like this: 1,2,3,5/1,7/1,2,5,6,11/2,4,6/5. The ticket will cost $60 (4 X 2 X 5 X 3 X 1 X $.50 = $60). Think of your single on It Happened Again this way…if you bet $60 to win on him, your profit would be $480 (assuming he goes off at 8-1). So, if your $.50 Pick 5 ticket returns more than $540 ($540 - $60 = $480), you’re better off. Good luck!
