- Who: Thoroughbreds – Indian Blessing, Sara Louise
- What: Horse Racing Betting Results – The Gallant Bloom Handicap
- Where: Belmont Park
- When: Saturday, September 26th
Indian Blessing has displayed many admirable qualities throughout her stellar career...speed, stamina, class, tractability, adaptability (to a variety of racing conditions), but last Saturday at Belmont Park she outdid herself. Confronted inside the furlong marker by a very classy and talented adversary in favorite Sara Louise, Indian Blessing dug deep in a thrilling stretch duel to prevail by half a head. Add guts to her long list of attributes. If you bet horses and read Friday’s article, you’ll know that I liked Indian Blessing’s chances in The Gallant Bloom, and felt that she’d be an overlay given the presence of Sara Louise. The plan came together beautifully, as Sara Louise was sent off at 1.35-1, with Indian Blessing the second choice at 1.40-1. I also felt that Indian Blessing would get the jump on her fast-closing rival, and that proved to be the case as well. Jockey John Velazquez split rivals to take the lead at the five-sixteenths pole, while Edgar Prado had to go four-wide aboard Sara Louise in an effort to keep up. The fillies dueled from the sixteenth pole to the wire, but Indian Blessing would not be denied, despite spotting her rival six pounds. She covered the 6 ½-furlong distance in a stakes-record 1:15.29, earning a solid Beyer Speed Figure of 103. I hope those horse racing betting results proved beneficial to your pocketbook. A token exacta bet using Any Limit (14.10-1) underneath Indian Blessing was worth a shot, but didn’t pan out, as Any Limit faded to finish last. I’ll look forward to watching Indian Blessing race for perhaps the last time in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. She should be on top of her game for that event, but will be racing over Santa Anita’s Pro-Ride surface, which she’s not crazy about, and will have to contend again with last year’s winner, Ventura. In the meantime, best of luck and happy gambling!
