Internet Horse Race Betting – Baby Talk
Let’s take a look at some potential future stars today as juveniles line up at Calder in the $100,000 Frank Gomez Memorial at 5 and a half furlongs.
Calder does not get the betting recognition of the other Florida tracks like Gulfstream and Tampa but it has a long and stellar history that includes some stars that excelled at this track.
The venue opened in May of 1971 and my brother, who was instrumental in getting me involved in racing, worked there during the 70s.
Calder's Summit of Speed has produced several Eclipse Award winners since its start in 2000. The race attracted some of the country's top sprinters, including Cajun Beat and Orientate who both went on to win the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Speedballs like Cherokee Run, Princess Rooney and Spend a Buck plied their trade at Calder while legendary horseman Fred Hooper hired many star jockeys at this track like Jacinto Vasquez, Eibar Coa and Alex Solis.
In this race last year, Little Drama won in his second career start with an online casino wire-to-wire score and a 91 Beyer after a troubled debut. He went on to win a stakes this year and also has been Grade 2 placed.
Eight babies line up for today’s horse betting action and on-line horse racing enthusiasts have options as the form in this race is far from established.
Ravelo’s Boy must deal with the rail today and that is probably not the best news since he walked out of the gate when hooking a freak in the debut.
For Oby broke on to the scene with a clever debut win at 22-1 and like the way he was inching away at the end. This guy has a right to have a nice career as a half brother to stakes winner and near $100K earner Weekend Weather.
Hello Prince won going away in his debut and he will be a handful today. He was flattered when the horse he just beat by over 3 lengths graduated in his next out.
Mel Beach has been snake bitten so far with three straight seconds. He will have to find that killer instinct someplace.
Importuno has his work cut out as he has flashed speed, but has stopped badly in both of his starts.
Moor of Venice is in the good hands of Marty Wolfson and has been given time to recoup from his debut win. The blood is decent as there is a $100,000 earner in the family.
Argentine Tango danced home on top last time overcoming a sloppy strip to get up by a neck. The concern is that after the taxing win, how much did it take out of him?
On the outside backers will be hoping for some noise from Singapore Thunder, who got a nice education in the debut, then graduated at this distance a couple of weeks ago.
Expect the race to unfold like this: Hello Prince will go directly to the lead and play come and catch me. He rolled after posting a :46 3/5 half in the debut and that split is by far the fastest any of these runners have seen so far.
Importuno could push the splits but hard to see him around at the end while Moor of Venice should sit 3 or 4 off the lead with Singapore Thunder getting the ideal garden trip.
At the top of the lane, Thunder will try to collar the Prince, but will run out of octane while Moor of Venice will roll by to complete the exacta.
Bettors should pay attention to how these runners finish for future opportunities.
Good luck and enjoy the sunshine.
