Juvenile Fillies Betting – Babies And Marathoners
Those seeking value in the Juvenile Fillies this year at Churchill could be in for a very long search as in the 7 prior runnings in Kentucky, only one true long shot succeeded and that was Caressing at $47 when she kicked off this decade.
Three winners paid odds-on and three others paid between 5-2 and 4-1 including last year’s winner Awesome Feather, who parlayed a win at Calder to a perfect three-hole trip to win as the tepid chalk.
The Eastern leader at this point in the clubhouse is Anthony Dutrow’s student Grace Hall, who made it two for two taking the Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga earlier this month posting an 85 Beyer.
Grace has a modest pedigree but her winning dam is kin to the near $200,000 earner Deep Space.
Weemissfrankie won the Western equivalent of the Spinway taking the Grade 1 Del Mar Deb to also stay unbeaten after 3 outs with a slightly less powerful 77 Beyer.
There are two 6-figures earners in Frankie’s family but neither was a true star.
The runners that were second in the races just mentioned, Judy the Beauty and Self Preservation have every right to improve and made some noise BC Day.
Since experience in this race is usually a moot point, lightly-raced runners can do well and that is why bettors should pay attention to just maiden winners like Stopshoppingmaria, who stumbled badly in her debut but came out with a vengeance next out graduating by almost 10 lengths with a 101 Beyer.
Maria has a right to have a nice career as her kin Sand Ridge won a number of stakes and earned over $700,000.
Aubby K only faced 4 rivals in her lone race but she dusted them off quickly taking the lead from the get go to win by 15 and a half lengths with a 75 Beyer.
She also has the pedigree to shine in the future as her dam won a Grade 3, banked over $250,000 and dropped three 6-figure earners.
More to come on this race as the days to the Cup get closer.
The Filly and Mare Turf at a mile and three eighths has only been run since 1999 and only three previous times at Churchill. Perfect Sting won in 2000 at 3-2. Ouija Board cashed as the chalk 6 years later and last season Shared Account rocked the tote board at 46-1 when she came from about 2 and a half-lengths off the pace to win by a neck.
Account was coming off a press and fade fifth in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont but she may have hated the yielding course that day.
Europeans figure to be prominent this year and they include Danedream, a Group 1 winner in Germany on September 4; Midday, 2nd in a Group 1 at Ascot; Misty for Me, an Aidan O’Brien miss that won a Group 1 at the Curragh in June and Snow Fairy, who got a slice in a Group 1 at Leopardstown on September 3.
The runners coming out of the Grade 1 Beverly D at Arlington should also be followed.
Stacelita won that race while Dubawi Heights and River Jetez completed the trifecta.
Winter Memories will have to prove she can run and beat older horses but she is the real deal. She was 2nd on the Churchill course last year in the Juveniles Fillies Turf beating a dozen when getting to the winner late.
She cashed in game style September 17 in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes and should be rolling hard late.
At this point, on-line bettors should zero in on the Euros, and look for the value as those consistent runners can sometimes be overlooked.
