Mother Goose Stakes Betting - Rhyme Time
Those sophomore fillies taking part in the betting grade 1 $250,000 mile and a sixteenth Mother Goose Stakes Saturday will be trying for that same fairy tale ending that Rachel Alexandra accomplished in this fray when she won by over 19 lengths 2 years ago.
Online horse speculators have a short and sweet Belmont field to evaluate but we will still try to smoke out a winner.
Over the decades, superstars like Shuvee, Chris Evert, Davona Dale, Go for Wand and the great Ruffian reached the winner’s circle after winning this fixture and last year Devil May Care did it her very own way.
The Todd Pletcher student was coming off a wide trip in the Kentucky Derby but she got an ideal 3-hole journey in the Goose when inching away late to post the 97 Beyer.
One online betting miss that was sitting pretty was Plum Pretty, who would have been shooting for her third straight win and would have been trying to become only the eighth filly all time to win both the horse betting Kentucky Oaks and the Mother Goose.
But she got a slight temperature and her trainer Bob Baffert decided not to ship east.
That leaves a sweet little 7 pack and here they are from the rail out.
Victoria’s Wildcat took awhile to figure it out but she has done something you don’t see every day and that is she graduated in a N1X spot. The daughter of Bellamy Road took the grade 3 Eight Belles at Churchill in May but then came back to earth in a thud in the grade 1 Acorn.
Wildcat has a right to have a great career as a half sister to group 1 winner and over $1.5 million earner Kinsale King.
Salty Strike comes off a career 90 Beyer and the way she was drawing off winning the grade 3 Dogwood last time suggests she will love this distance.
My Assets is giving away a lot of experience as just a maiden winner while Joyful Victory is proven fresh and proven at this distance.
Assets is bred to run all day as kin to grade 1 winner and near $850K earner Telling.
Joyful Victory was forced to steady in the Kentucky Oaks and with a clean trip, has every right to make amends for her flop as chalk.
Busters Ready ran super in the Black Eye Susan but that was a very small field and this race comes up tougher.
R Gypsy Gold freaked by over 7 graduating at the shore but could be pitched too high.
On the outside is Alseera, who has won 2 of her 3 starts but will be making her stakes debut.
When the gates are sprung, look for Salty Strike to take advantage of her speed in this paceless race. Alseera, since she is coming out of the sprint, has a shot to show much more speed here and will at least muddle the pace.
Joyful Victory could very well sit the garden trip in third with Buster’s Ready close by. The stragglers figure to be the rail, My Assets and R Gypsy Gold.
At the top of the lane Alseera will be feeling the pressure and will drop out of it while Salty Strike tries to find another gear.
At the end, Ramon Dominguez asks the question to Joyful Victory and she responds by nailing Salty on the line.
Good luck and hope you cash.
