Online Horse Betting – The Price Is Right
The legendary Bob Barker hosted the television show ‘The Price Is Right’ for years. But owners at Hollywood Park determine what price is right to claim a horse and online horse betting fans should pay attention to those runners that draw multiple claims for them.
You don’t get anything for nothing in horse racing. Everybody on the sports bet backstretch in all parts of the country either knows what’s going on or think they know what’s going on.
Secrets are very hard to keep so when a horse draws multiple claim slips, the word is out that he is relatively sound and able to bring back quick dividends on the investment.
If there are multiple claims for a runner, the stewards match the names with pills (or numbers) and draw out a winner of the claim, much like they do when they draw the races on a daily basis.
Sure, the big events like the Triple Crown and the Breeders’ Cup along with the 2011 Belmont betting captures the imagination of the masses, but claimers make the world go round.
They represent the meat and potatoes on every card in America and the better a handicapper is equipped to get an edge on those races, the closer he is at padding the bankroll for when the big days come around.
One of the ways online horse bettors can try to get an edge with claimers is to examine the claim register at the home track and evaluate which runners are making negative or positive moves.
Also if a horse is coveted with multiple claims, it goes to reason that the runner has caught the eye of a few horsemen and there can be strength in numbers.
Even in these hard economic times, there were 57 claims at Hollypark this meeting for a total of over $1,350,000 spent through May 27.
Six claim slips were put in for Fire Break last on May 27 and the former Dean Peterson student joined the Doug O’Neill factory for $20,000.
O’Neill has had an off meeting but this gelding can run. He has won 9 of 36 starts, can handle turf or the synthetic.
Peterson and Bill Morey each claimed this guy multiple times and when good horsemen step in and pay cash, it can speak volumes. This runner has back class, can be placed anywhere and still fire and don’t be shocked if O’Neill brings him back on the grass.
Peter Miller was one of three trainers trying to claim El Gaucho from Jerry Hollendorfer 2 weeks ago and he was the lucky one that came away with the son of Smoke Glacken.
He ran poorly the day he was claimed but he has already won a minor stakes at Portland and he has a nice stalking style.
Miller is stabled at San Luis Rey part of the year so don’t be shocked if this runner is pointed to the Del Mar meet.
Diamond Journey took a very positive stable move on May 19 going from a 9% barn to a stable that is hitting at 40% at the Hollywood meet this season.
Mike Mitchell won the three-trainer shake for this lightly raced miss and he has been winning off the claim in California for decades.
The filly has run well at Inglewood, has :21 and change speed to draw from and should be factor if she shows for $16K next out.
Horse bettors could do much worse than following this threesome from now on.
