Rock and Roll
Let’s try to kick off the week by trying to make some cash on maiden special weight New York-bred juveniles going long on grass in the 2nd at the Aqueduct Wednesday.
These races with Empire-breds trying a new surface can be like a puzzle wrapped in an enigma but there are a few angles to capitalize on.
With 16 in the cast, let’s hope the also eligible list doesn’t come into play since we’ll only cope with the body of the race and start with the outside runner Shakeira.
She is one of 3 debuters in the field, is out of a dam that was unraced and by a sire that is one for 25 with first-time turf runners. Two siblings won on grass including a stakes placed $175,000 earner.
Eur in the Mood was crushed in her debut and will need a 180-degree turn around to have any chance.
From post 8 comes Sarah’s Pleasure, a Todd Pletcher student from a good turf sire and whose dam won once in France. Pleasure is the key word as this miss is kin to near millionaire and multiple stakes winner J’Ray.
Stray Bullet is out to make amends for the loss as chalk. There is no grass success in the tree, but this one appears to be loaded.
Post 6 brings in My Unbridled Storm, a three-race failure so far, who will be a big price.
Foxglove is by a sire that commands a $10,000 fee but is unproven and out of a dam who won once on grass. The dam also dropped a $100,000 earner that won on grass.
Nobu Baby lost for a tag at first asking, lost at this level and was boxcars twice. Not buying.
She’s My Image is improving, but her lone sibling won long but never tried grass. Her dam lost 4 times.
Lady’s Lunar Luck is in good hands, has taken money in both of her starts, but failed when offered for sale last time. Her dam won on grass once and this is her first foal.
Rock N Cozy will try to ride the rails to victory. She showed great promise in her debut when beaten a half-length sprinting. She was flattered when the horse who beat her repeated a week ago in a $60,000 stakes. The blood is there too as although her dam is a non-winner, she dropped a Grade 3 placed stakes winner on grass that banked almost $150,000.
The feeling is Rock rolls. Her trainer Carl Domino is great with second timers, and this miss cost $185,000, more than anybody in the cast. She appears to be the speed of the speed, can take advantage of the quick turn from the rail and one could do worse than keying her in the gimmick and try to get lucky.
Stray Bullet should be used, along with Sarah’s Pleasure and value filly She’s My Image. If you have any bucks left over, try to keep a tab and see if the firsters are getting bet. If so, take a swing there, too.
Good luck.
