UFC 109 Betting Odds – Couture, Marquardt will dispose of competition at UFC 109
UFC Odds: Pick Maia -360 |
The UFC 109 betting odds is a fight card will highlight two Hall of Famers in one match for the first time in the UFC’s history. Randy Couture and Mark Coleman will be the co-main event of the evening and while most people will be focused on the Super Bowl line this Sunday, the UFC 109 has a card with plenty of depth on Saturday night. Here is a preview of the event:
| Coleman not a real threat to Couture |
| Sonnen’s wrestling won’t be enough to overcome Marquardt |
| Thiago offers good value against Swick |
UFC 109 Betting Odds: Randy Couture vs Mark Coleman
Although both fighters are past their primes and both probably should have retired by now, hardcore UFC fans will be happy to see these two legends go at it. Nostalgia aside, for betting purposes, it’s hard to pick Coleman in this matchup.
When you take a look at their recent competition, while both fighters have been losing, Couture has been fighting studs while Coleman has been fighting duds.
Couture has fought Brandon Vera, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Brock Lesnar in his last three fights while Coleman has only fought Stephan Bonnar and Mauricio Rua in the last three years.
This should still be a close bout but Couture will win it.
UFC 109 Betting Pick: Couture -400
UFC 109 Betting Odds: Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen
Nate Marquardt is the superior fighter in this matchup, which is why he is favored by so much of Chael Sonnen. Marquardt is clearly the No. 2 middleweight and when you are No. 2 behind Anderson Silva, sportsbook odds makers won’t scoff at you too much.
Sonnen is going to try to get this fight to the ground but that may not mean a whole lot. While Sonnen is good on the ground, Marquardt is good everywhere.
This fight will likely end up on the ground at some point as Sonnen knows he stands no shot on his feet. But Marquardt is more than capable on the ground and he’ll be aware of Sonnen’s one-dimensional game plan. Either way, this won’t end well for Sonnen.
UFC 109 Betting Pick: Marquardt -380
UFC 109 Betting Odds: Mike Swick vs Paulo Thiago
This will be an interesting battle for online betting cappers to examine. Swick is a -200 favorite and really, there is no clear indication as to why he should be favored by that much.
Thiago is 2-1 in the UFC so far with a knockout over Josh Koscheck and a tough decision loss to Jon Fitch, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Those were two of Swick’s teammates, so Thiago will somewhat know what to expect.
Swick is the more popular fighter, which is why he is favored, but he is coming off a tough knockout loss to Dan Hardy. He is the more aggressive fighter but if Thiago slows the pace and brings it to the ground, he’ll have an excellent chance to win. Based on value, Thiago is the pick.
UFC 109 Betting Pick: Thiago +170
UFC 109 Betting Odds: Matt Serra vs Frank Trigg
This will very likely be a good ‘ol win or go home match. Going home, in this case, likely means an exit out of the UFC so both fighters will be fighting for their jobs.
They have been trash-talking each other prior to the bout and there will be bad blood between the two in the ring. This is the only fight on the main card that has close odds as Serra is a -140 favorite while Trigg is +110.
Serra has good striking but Trigg is a bit better on the mat. Serra is a bit smaller than Trigg and that could be a big difference when they get to the ground. We’ll go with the underdog and take the small value in a tight fight.
UFC 109 Betting Pick: Trigg +110
UFC 109 Betting Odds: Demian Maia vs Dan Miller
UFC betting fans will see another one-sided fight as Demian Maia and Dan Miller step into the octagon.
Maia was on track as an up-and-comer when he surprisingly lost to Nate Marquardt but this is his chance to bounce-back. That was his first loss in the UFC and he should be very hungry to move that into his past.
Miller is a big underdog in this fight and in a division that is fairly weak overall, he probably doesn’t stand much of a threat to Maia. Maia was on track for a title shot before his loss to Marquardt and he’ll get back on track with another signature submission.
UFC 109 Betting Pick: Maia -360
