Maynard vs Huerta odds Technically, the Diaz/Guillard fight is the main event, but I have no idea why. The No. 2 fight of the evening, by far the most important bout of the night, pits undefeated Gray “The Bully” Maynard (8-0, 1 NC) against former lightweight contender Roger Huerta (22-2, 1 NC), who returns to the Octagon after a long hiatus for one last fight before he supposedly turns to acting permanently. Thanks to his unparalleled wrestling skills – he has the highest take-down success rate in the UFC at 86 per cent, even higher than George St-Pierre’s rate – Gray Maynard is bullying his way up the lightweight ranks and is a major online betting favorite in UFC Fight Night betting. He hasn’t shown great finishing ability yet but he’s a smart fighter with outstanding defense and the ability to get on top of opponents and control the pace of his fights. Maynard’s opponent can’t be underestimated. A former “Sports Illustrated” coverboy, Roger Huerta is an ultra-exciting fighter, known for his great cardio, tenacity and love of brawling. He’ll likely be the aggressor in this bout, hoping to score a sportsbook upset via knockout. THE HAMMER'S PICK: Huerta hasn’t fought for over a year and may not be prepared for the smarts and strength of Maynard. Before Huerta choked out Clay Guida two fights ago, Guida dominated him on the ground with his wrestling. If the diminutive Guida can ragdoll Huerta, what can Maynard do? Bet on Gray Maynard to win and earn himself a title shot against the winner of the Penn/Sanchez bout.
Diaz vs Guillard odds Nate Diaz has plenty of talent but has disappointed in recent bouts, losing to Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida by decision. A submission artist who uses his lanky 6’0” frame for leverage, Diaz has struggled against stalkier, more powerful fighters. In theory, that means he should be in trouble against knockout artist Melvin Guillard, who has a wrestling background and is one of the biggest lightweights around. THE HAMMER’S PICK: Guillard is a good fighter but almost all his losses come via submission. For whatever reason, he struggles against Jiu-Jitsu experts, leaving himself in vulnerable positions. Since Diaz has a strong chin and still put up good efforts in his recent defeats, earning Fight of the Night honors, he’ll prevail in UFC Fight Night betting. Pick Diaz.
