UFC Fight Night 20 Betting Odds – Maynard vs Diaz

Posted by Jack “The Hammer” Howard on 1/11/2010 2:26:01 PM

MMA Odds: Pick Maynard -300

It’s time for some UFC Fight Night 20 betting odds as the online betting community will get in on some mixed martial arts action on Monday night. After all, Monday Night Football is finished, so we need some sporting event to watch. Dana White has set up a quick-hitter with four key fights that will be broadcast on Spike TV. Here is a preview of the main event of the evening:

Maynard vs Diaz Betting Odds: Maynard -300

WHAT: UFC betting
WHEN: Monday, January 11, 2010
WHERE: Patriot Center. Fairfax, Virginia
PICK: Maynard -300

Nate Diaz (11-4-0)
Sports betting fans will see a rematch from The Ultimate Fighter 5 as Diaz and Maynard get together on Monday. Diaz choked out Maynard in the first fight with a guillotine in the semifinals and went on to win it, but he has since been a bit of a disappointment.

He built up some credit on UFC Fight Night’s like this with four straight wins over some so-so fighters, but when he got into the bigger events, he stumbled.

At UFC 94, Clay Guida edged him out via split decision and Joe Stevenson took a unanimous decision off him at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale. Those were two of the best fighters he’s faced and considering he lost both times, it wasn’t a vote of confidence.

Diaz is a young sprite at just 24-years-old and it is possible that he improves in the coming years but right now, he’s not a real lightweight contender. A win over Maynard would help his case, though.

Gray Maynard (8-0-1)
It might be tough to find someone who is more focused in the division than Maynard right now as The Bully is on a roll. He’s a big favorite in the Sports betting for this fight and considering how hot he’s been lately, it might be tough to bet against him.

Maynard has won six straight – five by decision – but he’s had some credible wins over Roger Huerta and Jim Miller. He, too, has been a Fight Night regular and he’ll be looking for some revenge on Diaz from their first fight.

The Bully has become a better fighter since that time. He’s more patient, he’s stronger and he’s a better wrestler. Those could factor greatly tonight.

What will happen: UFC Fight Night 20 Betting Odds
The UFC betting crowd knows that Diaz is a lanky fighter who is very good with submissions. Unfortunately, Maynard has improved his wrestling significantly and Diaz has struggled with strong fighters.

Maynard lost the first exhibition bout but he has talked about not being into it. It was on the last day of the show and he just wanted to get over with it.

Since that time, he’s improved his game all around and is a really tough opponent for Diaz. Unless he gets caught with a surprising submission, don’t expect Maynard to take his first UFC loss here.
