The Ultimate Fighter 10 odds have potential to launch UFC betting to even greater heights than it reached this summer. The reason: Kevin Ferguson, better known as Kimbo Slice. The YouTube streetfighting sensation gets a shot to prove his detractors wrong in the latest season of the popular MMA reality series.
Ultimate Fighter 10 odds: Kimbo will impress but won’t win the show
As any online betting fan would expect, the Ultimate Fighter 10 odds are difficult to handicap as we know little about most of the fighters entering the premiere. Obviously, the first name that comes to mind is Kimbo Slice at +400 to win. What can we expect from him? On one hand, he’s a powerful knockout machine with wins over Tank Abbott and Ray Mercer (exhibition) in his brief MMA career. On the other hand, he’s displayed almost no ground skill so far and horrible cardio. He’s also 35 years old. My guess: Kimbo will make some noise, show some improvement, knock a few guys out…but not win the show. He’s too old and too underdeveloped on the ground. Based on experience and size, Wes Sims (+250) is a favorite to win. He stands 6’10” and 260 pounds and will thus be difficult to overpower. He also trains with Mark Coleman, so his wrestling should be strong. Another favorite: Mike Wessel (+400). He was 6-0 and earned a fight at UFC 92, where he was knocked out by kickboxer Antoni Hardonk. Relative unknown John Madsen has +400 Ultimate Fighter 10 odds too; he’s a decorated wrestler who even battled Brock Lesnar in the past, but he’s inexperienced as an MMA fighter. A fun sleeper is former NFLer Marcus Jones (+2500), who stands 6’6” and should be one of the best athletes of the bunch, but is still pretty green. Two fighters stand out above the rest, however. The first, at +800, is Justin “The Viking” Wren (10-1), who has an accomplished wrestling background in Greco-Roman wrestling and has eight knockouts wins. Then there’s long shot Darrill Schoonover (+4000), who is unknown but has a 10-0 record with five knockouts and five submissions. JACK’S PICK: Why not take a flier on the biggest offshore sportsbook underdog, Schoonover? The Ultimate Fighter odds are a crapshoot and Schoonover gives you great value. He also has a very impressive record so far and is very fresh at age 24. He may be the smallest heavyweight on the show at 6’2” and 218 pounds, but he could also be the fastest. Remember when Rashard Evans won the show as a tiny heavyweight? Bet on Darrill Schoonover.
