Weekend Sports Betting - Wimbledon, NASCAR, Baseball on tap for weekend
There will be a lot of sports betting events to keep those rabid online betting fans busy this weekend. While there aren’t any massive fighting events, there will be some tennis and racing to bet on. It will also be the last weekend of interleague baseball action. Here’s a preview of the sports betting weekend:
Sports betting: Wimbledon heads to first weekend
- Federer to roll on Sunday
- Jimmie Johnson to continue dominance in New Hampshire
- Yankees make first visit to Citi Field in Subway Series
Wimbledon sports betting
The tennis tours are at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club for the third Grand Slam of the season, and it’s been smooth sailing for Roger Federer so far. Surprisingly, though, he did drop a set on Friday to Philip Kohlscheiber, although it was in a tie breaker. (Kohlschreiber was the 27th seed overall.) Federer will face Robin Soderling in the next round, and quite clearly, the sportsbook odds will have Soderling as a big underdog. Soderling lost to Federer in the French Open final, and many sports betting enthusiasts may recall Soderling saying that “nobody beats me 11 times in a row.” Federer has defeated Soderling 10 straight times and will likely make it 11 this weekend.
NASCAR sports betting
The NASCAR betting crowd will shift their attention to New Hampshire this weekend for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301. It should be an interesting race, especially since points leader Tony Stewart will now be in his backup car after wrecking his lead car on Friday. Jimmie Johnson has dominated this track, winning here twice and finish in the top 10 in his last four tries. He’s a solid sports betting pick this weekend.
Baseball sports betting
One more weekend of interleague action to go before the intermixing stops, and there will be a couple of really entertaining series for the sports betting crowd to bet on. The lone National League series between the San Francisco Giants and Milwaukee Brewers should be interesting as Matt Cain and Yovani Gallardo square off on Friday. Sports betting enthusiasts should get to see a very good pitcher’s duel. On the weekend, there will be a classic between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. The entire nation shifts their focus when the Battle of the Beltway takes place and an interesting all-East all-last place matchup should get everyone foaming at the mouth.
In all seriousness, the sports betting crowd will be paying most of its attention to the Subway Series as the New York Yankees and New York Mets square off. It will be the Yankees first visit to Citi Field. With Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado on the disabled list, this particular series will lack some luster as the Mets are severely shorthanded. The Yankees should be favored on the sports betting lines most of the weekend.
