Weekend Betting Preview

Posted by BetOnline.com Staff on 9/2/2009 12:52:03 PM

The weekend is the busiest time for those who bet sports so let’s get a head start with our weekend primer.

  • LeBron and Caves face San Antonio
  • Clemson, FSU face off in Top-25 battle
  • Kenseth shooting for three straight in NASCAR

Friday, February 27

NBA betting: Cleveland Cavaliers @ San Antonio Spurs (9:30 p.m. ET)
Sportsbook odds: Cavaliers -2

Odd seeing the Cavaliers as a two-point favorite in San Antonio, but that’s the case with Tim Duncan a game-time decision. The Spurs hope to have him in the lineup as they go for their seventh straight win at home. The Cavaliers are smarting after their beat down on Thursday, where LeBron James registered his first NBA game without an assist.

Even though the Cavs will be sharp, hard to pick them if Duncan is in the lineup.

Saturday, February 28

NCAA basketball betting: Arizona Wildcats @ Washington Huskies (3:00 p.m. ET)

The Washington Huskies control their own destiny in the Pac-10, believe it or not. If they win their final three home games, they can win their first regular season Pac-10 crown in 56 years. They are 14-1 at home but will have their hands full with a team that at one point ranked among the Top-25.

The Wildcats are a tricky veteran squad that has struggled to find consistency. Washington is 14-1 at home this season and, if they are on their game, they should be the team to win.

NCAA basketball betting: No. 13 Clemson Tigers @ No. 25 Florida State Seminoles (2:00 p.m. ET)

The only Top-25 matchup on Saturday will be the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles jockeying for position in the ACC.

Both teams are 8-5 in conference play, one game behind Duke in the standings and two behind North Carolina. The game is a little more important to Florida State, who is closer to the bubble than Clemson, but neither team should have too much to worry about at this point.

Florida State toppled the Tigers in Clemson back on February 7 when they were the No. 10 team in the nation. Back at home, the Seminoles should take care of business again.

NHL betting: Washington Capitals @ Boston Bruins (1:00 p.m. ET)

The Washington Capitals have been streaking of late, going 9-3-1 in their last 13 games. Cappers have been following them closely as the trade deadline approaches since many people feel they are just one or two pieces short of being a serious contender.

They’ll measure themselves against the best in the East as they head to Boston on Saturday. The Bruins have a nine-point lead on the second-place Capitals, so we’ll get a feel of who is really the top team in the East.

Sunday, March 1

NASCAR betting: Shelby 427 picks (4:30 p.m. ET)

The Sprint Cup swings by Las Vegas and the question is can Matt Kenseth pull off three straight? At +550, I’m willing to take a shot. His pit crew is on fire and they can’t make a bad decision right now.

If it’s not Kenseth, then Carl Edwards is a good bet to break through with his first win of the year. He won this race last season.
