Soccer Odds - Argentina will use Colombia to rebound from painful Bolivia rout
Soccer betting players never expected Argentina to have as much trouble as they’ve had in the CONBEMOL region, but they’re hanging onto the final spot as the top four teams advance to the World Cup in 2010. Argentina will host Colombia on Saturday as a massive favorite if you’re betting online, and after their pummeling at the hands of Bolivia, they should be raring to go.
Soccer betting: Argentina to take on Columbia in Saturday battle
- Argentina ready to bounce back from losses to Bolivia
- Colombia a strong team even at less than full strength
- Lionel Messi will be huge key for Argentina
Argentina Colombia odds – Saturday, June 6, 5:00 PM ET
Argentina were mauled 6-1 by Bolivia in La Paz back in April, as they were down 3-1 at halftime, and matters were made worse by Angel Di Maria’s red card in the 64th minute. Di Maria earned his exit after only eight minutes on the pitch for Argentina, who got a lone goal from Luis Gonzalez. Argentina had no answer for the Bolivian duo of Marcelo Martins and Joaquin Botero, who combined for four goals.
Colombia fell 2-0 at Venezuela the day before Argentina received their whupping, but they held firm until they gave up two goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes. This is all more impressive when you factor in that Colombia played with 10 men for the final hour of the game, as Abel Aguilar was sent off in the 28th minute.
Soccer odds at the sportsbook have Argentina as a big -332 favorite in this contest, and they’ll be looking to avenge a 2-1 loss in Bolivia from November 2007. Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead before Ruben Bustos and Dayro Moreno responded in the second half for Colombia. Argentina’s job was made all the more difficult with a red card from Carlos Tevez, and they can’t afford to be as ill-disciplined again. It was a chippy affair on both sides, as there were nine yellow cards and a red administered. Argentina won’t have defender Marcos Angeleri for this match as he ruptured some knee ligaments with his club team, Estudiantes. But they do have Messi, who is coming off a Champions League win and a Spanish title with Barcelona, and he’ll be the key to unlocking Colombia’s defense. The boys from Colombia will be in for a long day on Saturday.
