World Cup Group H Betting – Spain Should Roll Through Group H
Group H could be the easiest online betting matchup you’ll face in the group stages, as Spain and Chile are the class of this group and should be more concerned with battling for the top spot.
Key Match
Spain-Chile will wrap up Group H on June 25th at 2:30 PM ET, and first place in the group should be on the line. Winning your group gives you a chance to face a team that finished second in their group, so topping Group H will be priority No.1 for Spain and Chile.
- History: 13th appearance; Second round in 2006
- Best finish: Fourth place (1950)
- World Cup Group H Betting Odds: -375
Why they can win: They have, by far, the most talent in the group, and arguably in the tournament. Who else can claim a midfield trio like Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas, and have to leave one on the bench? Who else can boast of a strike pair like Fernando Torres and David Villa? All three of their goalkeepers could be No.1s anywhere in the world.
Why they can’t win: Injuries to Torres, Fabregas, Iniesta and Xavi are the biggest threats to Spain’s World Cup betting odds. The first three haven’t played in a while and need some game action, and Xavi has been playing with a torn calf muscle. The defense, led by Carlos Puyol, is sometimes suspect as well.
- History: 8th appearance; didn’t qualify in 2006
- Best finish: Third place (1962)
- World Cup Group H Betting Odds: +500
Why they can win: The Chileans are riding a wave of momentum after romping through the qualification stages, and they’re an intense attacking force led by Humberto Suazo, who may be the next big target for big European clubs. Manager Marcelo Biesla has really opened up the Chile attack.
Why they can’t win: Chile scored 32 goals during qualification, but they also allowed 22. They’ll have to shore up their defense against the bigger teams of the World Cup tournament, such as Spain.
- History: 8th appearance; Second round in 2006
- Best finish: Quarterfinals (1954)
- World Cup Group H Betting Odds: +1150
Why they can win: The Swiss are bleeding young players into the squad, but the best chances for overcoming their sportsbook odds could be down to a couple of veterans up front, Alexander Frei and Hakan Yakin. Frei is Switzerland’s all-time leading scorer, and the pair has 60 goals for the Swiss between them.
Why they can’t win: As we said, the Swiss are young, especially at the back, and they’re led by Philip Senderos, who has been spotty with Everton and AC Milan. They may have a better shot in 2014.
- History: 2nd appearance; didn’t qualify in 2006
- Best finish: First round (1982)
- World Cup Group H Betting Odds: +3000
Why they can win: If Honduras is going to win their first-ever game in the World Cup, it could be due to the play of Wilson Palacios and Carlos Pavon, who fired Honduras to their first World Cup since 1982. Pavon will be retiring from international play after the tournament is over, and he’ll be playing inspired football.
Why they can’t win: Honduras should just be aiming to win a match in this group, and it could come against the Swiss. Their defense is far overmatched for the likes of Spain and Chile.
World Cup Group H Betting Prediction & Outlook
This group should be pretty straightforward as the Euro 2008 champions from Spain will come out on top, followed by Chile. Switzerland and Honduras should battle it out in one the most entertaining matches to stay out of last place in any group, but you should stay away from their sports betting odds to win Group H.
