Team Uruguay: Betting Preview
Striker Luis Suarez’s second marker of their round of 16 match against South Korea booked Uruguay’s return to the elite eight of the tournament, and his accuracy and finish were representative of just how spot on his side has been in the soccer blog World Cup. Despite losing the all-important battle for possession in that contest, Uruguay was solid when playing without the ball, and didn’t allow the Korean Republic to create many scoring opportunities. One area head coach Oscar Tabarez will need to improve is in their urgency after the team nearly fell asleep after scoring the opening goal against South Korea. It wasn’t until their opponent got on the board that Uruguay woke up and started playing the way they did at the start of the game, and if they allow Ghana to get back in it or take an early lead, it will be much more difficult to overcome.
Team Ghana: Betting Preview
It took everything they had, including the waves and waves of Vuvezela cheers from the home crowd to help Ghana advance to the quarterfinals as the only African team remaining in the tournament after a 2-1 win over the United States in extra time. Ghana opened the scoring in that game, but like Uruguay did against South Korea, they seemed to sit back and get a little too comfortable until Landon Donovan scored the soccer betting tying goal, and it nearly cost them the game. Richard Kingson has been absolutely brilliant in net for Ghana, and will need another top level performance to ensure his side enough time to crack the tough Uruguay defense.
Who Will Win It?
Both teams have played with too little urgency after taking early leads at different points in this tournament, including in their round of 16 matches. The Black Stars are much better when they are the aggressors, however although they will dictate much of the pace early on, there is no guarantee they will be able to crack the Uruguay defense. Expect the South American side to stymie Ghana’s attack long enough, and then use their own counter attack to get on the scoresheet.
