Wimbledon Betting - Nadal pulls out, Federer's path to victory eases
The Wimbledon betting crowd can finally have some certainty. Rafael Nadal, the reigning Champion at Wimbledon, has withdrawn from the tournament. Online sports betting handicappers were hoping for another Nadal-Roger Federer classic, but that can’t happen now. With Nadal out of the picture, the draw sets up beautifully for Federer to win his 15th career Grand Slam.
Wimbledon Betting: Federer has easy draw to final
- Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon due to knee tendinitis
- Federer will win now that Nadal is out of the way
- Murray will benefit from Nadal’s absence but won’t beat Federer
The Wimbledon odds display a much clearer picture now that there is no more necessary speculation about Nadal. After testing his knee out a couple of times in warm-up matches, Nadal deemed himself too bothered by the tendinitis in his knee and won’t compete at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club.
The sportsbook odds have obviously increased on Federer, who is the hands-down favorite to win the tournament. Considering he has a fairly easy draw, he might not even be challenged until the finals. Federer’s draw is fairly simple, and not only because Nadal has pulled out: On his side, he only has to face the inconsistent Novak Djokovic and possibly Juan Martin Del Potro, whom he took care of in the French Open semi-finals.
With Nadal out, it also creates a huge opening for Andy Murray, who now becomes the favorite on the top half of the draw. Wimbledon betting enthusiasts know that the crowd will be pulling for him, and he’ll likely be the man meeting Federer in the finals. But even so, it’s hard to envision Mopey Murray even putting a dent in Federer’s game. Murray actually owns a 6-2 lifetime record against Federer but all of his wins have come in smaller, meaningless tournaments. Wimbledon betting handicappers should note that the one time they met at a Grand Slam – at last year’s US Open – Federer crushed Murray 6-2, 7-5, 6-2. Murray has improved but Federer still owns the grass.
