Keselowski Looks To Make It Five In A Row At Auto Club 400

Posted by Lee-Roy Buckles on 3/21/2013 6:28:32 PM

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Fontana, California this weekend for the Auto Club 400, taking to the first two-mile racetrack of the online sportsbook season at the Auto Club Speedway. Brad Keselowski still has the lead in the points standings despite losing out in the battle with race winner Kasey Kahne at last week’s Food City 500, but he has some considerable competition at the top in the form of the Hendrick Motor Sports team. Kahne is coming off of his first win, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has placed in the top-10 in every race so far this season, and Jimmie Johnson will be looking to bounce back following his first finish outside of the top-10 so far in 2013. Keselowski has finished in the top-five in all four races so far this season, and will look to make it five in a row.

The team with the best engines usually dominates at the Auto Club 400, so it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if the top three Hendrick drivers were all in the top-10. Kahne has bounced back following a slow start to the online betting season, and after flying under the radar for much of last season that is no longer the case. Earnhardt meanwhile could very well be the biggest surprise of the year so far with top-10 finishes in all four races so far. Winning has been one of the biggest problems for Dale Jr. in recent years, so consistency will be the key to remaining in contention. As for Johnson, finishing outside of the top-10 for the first time this season was a letdown last week, so don’t expect anything less than 10th place for the driver of the No. 48 car this weekend.

One driver to keep an eye on at this week’s race is Tony Stewart, who won this event a year ago. Stewart is already 81 points back of the lead following an awful start, with just one top-10 finish to show through four sports betting races. After winning two of the last three races at the Auto Club, Stewart should be in the mix near the front of the pack once again. Matt Kenseth is another driver with good wheels that has struggled to put it all together this season, and with the fifth-best average finish and third-best driver ranking over the last two races at this track, he should have a good shot at closing the gap in the standings.

Another name to keep an eye on this weekend is Kyle Busch, who has run very well at this track in the past. Busch has four top-five finishes, nine top-10 finishes, and has won at the Auto Club Speedway before, so don’t sleep on him as having a legitimate shot at winning. Of course, it makes no sense to preview any race and not talk about the potential of Keselowski to dominate once again, as he has finished in the top-five in all four races so far this year. Keselowski has established himself as the early favorite to repeat with another Sprint Cup in 2013, and unless something goes horribly wrong he should be in the mix until the end once again at the Auto Club 400.
