2012 NLCS Betting Predictions – Giants, Cardinals Settle In For Three Games In St. Louis

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 10/16/2012 6:49:36 PM

The San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals will play at least three more games in the National League Championship Series. Drama awaits this week in the Gateway City.

San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals – National League Championship Series

Game 3: Wednesday, October 17

Betting lines for this contest are likely to be pretty tight. Don't expect one team to be favored by a substantial margin. Both teams will be trotting out their aces in Game 3 of a 1-1 series. The Giants will go with Matt Cain, while the Cardinals will counter with Kyle Lohse, who went 16-3 in the 2012 regular season. Cain won Game 5 of the National League Division Series against the Cincinnati Reds, but he didn't pitch very well once he was given a 6-0 lead in the fifth inning. He got knocked out in the sixth with his team leading, 6-3. Lohse lost Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals, but he pitched much better than Cain did if one is interested in making comparisons. Lohse allowed just one run and two hits to the Nationals, showing that he is becoming the big-game pitcher on the St. Louis staff.

The sense here is that both men are going to flourish, but the Giants – after being awakened in Game 2 by a late and unnecessary slide from St. Louis' Matt Holliday, one that injured San Francisco second baseman Marco Scutaro – are going to find a way to get the big hit in a key late-inning spot. San Francisco will dig out a 2-1 win on the road.

MLB Betting Pick: San Francisco

Game 4: Thursday, October 18

You don't have to be an mma betting expert to realize that in Game 4 of this series, all eyes will be on San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum. The former Cy Young Award winner had a terrible regular season, one marked by an earned-run average that ballooned beyond the five-run mark. Lincecum has improved markedly in the postseason, however. He performed brilliantly in long relief in Game 4 of the NLDS against Cincinnati and provided some spotless short relief for the Giants in Game 1 of this NLCS clash on Sunday against St. Louis. If he's right, Lincecum can dominate the Cardinals, but if he's wrong, he'll allow St. Louis to get back in the series.

The sense here is that Lincecum will not be effective as a starting pitcher. Moreover, St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright – who got crushed in Game 5 of the NLDS against Washington – is going to be highly motivated to pitch well this time around. The Cardinals should turn around the series and win in Game 4.

MLB Betting Pick: St. Louis

Game 5: Friday, October 19

While some people focus on NFL betting, the fifth game of this series will capture the attention of baseball fans across America. The Giants are undecided about their starter, largely because Game 1 loser Madison Bumgarner is just not effective at the moment. St. Louis starter Lance Lynn is also looking ragged at the moment, but the Cardinals will probably be able to do more against San Francisco's eventual starting pitcher.

MLB Betting Pick: St. Louis
