Angels Mariners Betting Tips – Angels Try To Make A Move In A.L. Wild Card Race

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 9/30/2012 7:19:14 PM

The Los Angeles Angels are still right there in the running for the American League's final wild card spot. They know that they need to sweep the Seattle Mariners in the Pacific Northwest.

Los Angeles Angels @ Seattle Mariners – Series Overview

Game 1: Monday, October 1

Sport betting experts will not argue with the contention that the Los Angeles Angels have to sweep the Seattle Mariners if they want to either make the American League playoffs or force a one-game playoff before the one-game (regularly scheduled) one-game wild card elimination game that's set for Thursday, Oct. 4.

The Angels are in must-win territory because, after a weekend spent in Texas against the Rangers, the Angels will probably find themselves trailing the Oakland Athletics and (or?) the Baltimore Orioles by at least two – probably three – games in the standings. When the Angels arrive in Seattle from Texas, there will be no margin for error. It's true that Oakland finishes its season against Texas, but the A's split four games against Texas this past week and are not likely to be swept by the Rangers at home. The Angels must simply power through.

It's going to be very tough for them in the opener of this series.

C.J. Wilson goes to the mound for the Halos on Monday with a 3.86 earned-run average. He's a good guy for Los Angeles to have on the hill, but it's his opponent that will be a problem for the Angels. Seattle starter Felix Hernandez, the team's best player and its staff ace as well, has a 2.86 earned-run average, part of a Cy Young-worthy season. Hernandez will want to reach back for every last ounce of velocity he has on his pitches, since this is his last game of 2012. Hernandez will make a very formidable opponent, and nothing the Angels do might make any bit of difference. In what could be a knockout blow for the Halos, they'll lose to King Felix in game one of this series.

Game 2: Tuesday, October 2

This is pure high-stakes poker, but the Angels might already be eliminated when they come to the ballpark on Tuesday in game two of this series. Dan Haren is the starter for the Angels, lugging a not-very-impressive 4.32 earned-run average to the hill in Seattle. The Mariners will counter with starter Hisashi Iwakuma, who has a very strong 3.32 earned-run average but has built that number based on only 15 starts and a comparatively smaller number of innings. The Angels might be depressed if they are in fact eliminated, but they will tag Iwakuma for several runs and dig out a victory on the road.

Game 3: Wednesday, October 3

When the best online betting sites size up this game, they'll realize that whether the Angels are still alive or not, their ace will want to go out with a bang in 2012. Jered Weaver, with a 2.74 earned-run average, could also win the Cy Young in the American League. He will want to make his start count against Seattle's Blake Beavan (4.64 ERA). Trust the Angels in the series – and perhaps the season – finale.
