Bet On Yankees Red Sox – Yankees, Red Sox Renew Hostilities For The First Time In 2012

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 4/18/2012 3:37:38 PM

It seems as though every MLB season the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are slow out of the gate, trailing the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East through the first couple of weeks before coming alive and making their run for the top of the division. While the Yankees have already bounced back in a way after being swept in their opening sports betting series, the Red Sox are still looking for some traction at the bottom of the division heading in to a three-game set versus the pinstripes at Fenway Park.

After allowing seven earned runs in just four innings of work in his season debut against the Detroit Tigers, Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz bounced back to a degree by providing Boston with seven innings of work in a 13-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, even if he was tagged for all five runs. The entire Red Sox organization has started slow, and the team is hoping that Buchholz can continue to show improvement when he makes his third start on Friday against New York. The Yankees will counter with Ivan Nova, who is 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA after getting the W against both the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Nova continues to make a strong impression on the Yankees’ management, and that has made him a strong favorite to stay in the rotation ahead of Phil Hughes and Freddy Garcia when Andy Pettitte and Michael Pineda return.

Garcia meanwhile has been serviceable so far, but with eight earned runs allowed through 9 innings of work against the Orioles and Minnesota Twins, he hasn’t come close to convincing his manager that he deserves a spot in the Yankees’ starting rotation. The veteran Garcia will get another chance to prove his merit on Saturday when he gets the start in the second sports bet contest of the series, matched up against the 24-year old Felix Doubront. The Red Sox have won both of the games that Doubront has started even though he hasn’t been award the victory in either of them, and manager Bobby Valentine has to love the way the youngster gives his lineup the chance to win every time out.

After a couple of day games to open the series, the setting for game three will shift to prime time with CC Sabathia getting the call against Daniel Bard. Sabathia has really struggled to open the season despite getting a win against the Twins, although he has shown improvement in all three of his starts so far. Bard on the other hand has lost both of his starts, even though he allowed just one run in 6.2 innings of work in a 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the last sportsbook contest he started. Look for the Red Sox to rally together in the rubber match of a three-game set and help Bard out by roughing up Sabathia a little bit and taking the series.
