Betting Predictions For Rockies Giants - Rockies And Giants Fight To Move Upward In N.L. West Chase

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been setting the pace this season in the National League West Division, forcing the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants to play catch-up in May.

Colorado Rockies @ San Francisco Giants – Series Overview

Game 1: Monday, May 14

If you are interested in betting on baseball this season, the upcoming two-game series between the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants will offer you a pair of genuinely intriguing contests that are not particularly easy to handicap for entirely different sets of reasons. In game one of this series on Monday night at AT&T Park in San Francisco, the Rockies and Giants will play a game that will be hard to figure out because both of their starting pitchers are performing on a fairly equal level while coming from almost identical backgrounds. Colorado starter Alex White brings a 2.84 earned-run average into this contest, while San Francisco hurler Ryan Vogelsong totes a 2.94 ERA into Monday's game.

Each of these pitchers has performed above expectations this season, but it also has to be said that both White and Vogelsong are relatively obscure pitchers who have not made a particularly big name for themselves over the years in the big leagues. Their ability to thrive through the course of a full season is not yet proven or known. May is a month when a lot of pitchers' strong starts in April give way to more and more mediocrity as hitters get more looks at them and learn about their pitching patterns.

This is a tenuous time for both men, a time when they need to ramp up their levels of focus and re-dedicate themselves to the craft. The sense here is that the Rockies will get to Vogelsong early; Colorado has been struggling so much that manager Jim Tracy's team is bound to have at least one breakout game before too long. Baseball, with its 162-game regular season, will always involve games in which a generally weak team plays a strong game. Even the worst teams in the sport manage to win 60 to 65 times a year, so with little to separate these two clubs, Colorado is the ever-so-slight choice to win on Monday.

MLB Betting Pick: Colorado

Game 2: Tuesday, May 15

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on the second game of this series, it's also hard to pick between pitchers, but for unconventional reasons. Colorado starter Christian Friedrich has a 1.50 ERA, but that's based on one six-inning start against the San Diego Padres on May 9 in which he gave up one run. San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum has a 5.89 earned-run average, but he's a far more proven pitcher than Friedrich. Lincecum generally figures things out in seasons when he struggles. He's not going to win the Cy Young, but he will beat Friedrich in this contest. Friedrich's numbers are not backed up by an extensive sample size.
