Cincinnati Reds Betting Predictions – Reds Look To Take Care Of Unfinished Business In 2013

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 3/4/2013 6:13:19 PM

The Cincinnati Reds fell just one win shy of reaching the National League Championship Series in 2012. With a deep lineup and one of the better rotations in the NL, the Reds will look to take that next step in 2013. Cincinnati proved itself as one of the best teams in the majors last season when it won the NL Central division and finished with the second-best record in baseball, and after coming up just short on the biggest stage, they will look to complete their unfinished business this coming year. The Reds didn’t really lose much in the offseason, and the addition of Shin-Soo Choo gives them a star leadoff hitter that could make them an even higher scoring sports betting team.

Choo is likely to step right in as the leadoff man in the Cincinnati order, batting ahead of Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto. While the Reds’ offense struggled with consistency a year ago, this team managed to persevere with their best hitter injured for most of the second half in Votto, and should be much more dangerous with Choo and Votto at the top of the lineup. Cincinnati expects Phillips to bounce back after he batted just .202 last season, and the online sportsbook numbers indicate that the move to No. 2 in the order could help. Phillips hit .301 outside the leadoff spot a year ago, and that was without Votto behind him. Ryan Ludwick was re-signed in the offseason after showing power in 2012, while Jay Bruce is expected to continue to develop as a star after increasing his home run and RBI totals in every year since he joined the big leagues.

One of the biggest surprises last online betting season was how strong the Reds’ starting rotation was throughout the year, and while it will be hard to match last year’s success, all of the pieces are in place for an extended run. Bronson Arroyo is the veteran on the staff, but will pitch third behind Johnny Cueto and Mat Latos, who each kept their ERA south of 3.50 a year ago. Homer Bailey will be slotted in at No. 4, while Aroldis Chapman could very well come in at the back of the rotation ahead of Mike Leake, depending on how he does in the spring. Chapman went through a rough stretch last year but the talent is certainly there, and Bailey proved in 2012 that he could very well be the next big thing for this club. The Reds had the best bullpen in the majors last season and didn’t lose anyone, so the idea that one of these arms will join them depending on whether Chapman or Leake makes the top-five is scary.

With an excellent pitching staff, improved offense, and a smart manager that knows how to get the most out of his team in Dusty Baker, it’s hard to imagine Cincinnati not repeating as NL Central champions. The Reds have the potential to once again challenge for one of the best records in the majors in 2013, and anything less than an extended playoff run will be viewed as a disappointment for a club that has this much talent on both sides of the ball.

Projected Record: 99-63; 1st In NL Central
