Cubs vs Dodgers Odds - Both teams have questions, neither will get answers

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 4/24/2012 9:35:18 AM
MLB oddsThe Cubs vs Dodgers odds are all about desperation. Each team, considered a shoo-in to win its own division by betting sharps at the start of the year, is stumbling. The Cubs have been a bust in general while the Dodgers are doing their best to erase their great run with a late-season stumble. Which team can get back on track?

Cubs vs Dodgers odds: Expect two wins for each team in evenly matched series

  • Unsung Weaver, Wells should lead their teams to victory
  • Ted Lilly’s return gives the Cubs a nice lift
  • Billingsley, Ethier will be too much for the Cubs on Sunday

Tonight, 10:10 p.m. ET
Tom Gorzelanny (5-2, 5.24) vs Jeff Weaver (5-4, 3.71)

Tonight’s pitching matchup will be like Webster vs Gary Coleman – a battle of “Where are they now?” pitchers who started their careers promisingly only to flop before bouncing back this season. Gorzelanny has been great in two of his three starts with the Cubs and his one ugly start came at Coors Field. Then again, his wins came against the anemic Reds and Pirates, so you have to temper your expectations for his Cubs vs Dodgers odds.

Weaver is only averaging about three innings per “start,” but he’s been somewhat effective, tossing six scoreless innings over his last two outings, so his Cubs vs Dodgers odds look decent tonight.

MLB betting pick: Dodgers

Friday, August 21, 10:10 p.m. ET
Randy Wells (9-5, 3.01) vs Randy Wolf (7-6, 3.43)

It’s Wells vs Wolf in Randyfest 2009. Who has the edge? Wells has been a total revelation for the Cubbies this season, but he’s finally started looking mortal of late, posting a 3.86 ERA this month--though that’s still a good number. Randy Wolf has turned it on in the second half but still hasn’t figured out Dodger Stadium, winning just one of his 12 starts there in 2009. Bet on Wells to will the battle of the Randys at your sportsbook.

MLB betting pick: Cubs

Saturday, August 22, 4:10 p.m. ET
Ted Lilly (9-7, 3.42) vs Charlie Haeger (0-1, 3.86)

Stingy Ted Lilly makes his second start since coming off the DL Saturday and his Cubs vs Dodgers odds look promising. He looked unhittable earlier this week, tossing six scoreless innings. While he hasn’t pitched well on the road overall this season, he’s never lost to the Dodgers in his career. With L.A. sending unproven Charlie Hager to the mound, I like the Cubs. Haeger did survive against the Cards in his lone start of 2009, but he allowed two homers and only struck out two. The Cubs should get to him.

MLB betting pick: Cubs

Sunday, August 23, 4:10 p.m. ET
Ryan Dempster (6-7, 4.28) vs Chad Billingsley (12-6, 3.70)

After an ugly July, Chad Billingsley is back on track and MLB betting fans are breathing a collective sigh of relief. He’s 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA over three August starts and 8-4 at home this season, so he’s a good bet to even up the Cubs vs Dodgers odds at two games apiece. Ryan Dempster does have a 2.95 ERA at Dodger Stadium, but his 4.94 ERA since the All-Star break suggests he’s due to take his lumps. Watch out for Andre Ethier, who is batting .429 off Dempster in 14 career at-bats.

MLB betting pick: Dodgers
