2014 MLB Betting – Picks For Saturday, July 26

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 7/25/2014 10:55:51 PM

The Major League Baseball season moves into the final week of July. The trade deadline looms, so it’s going to be very important to keep track of which teams are moving into contention, and which teams are dropping out of contention. A lot is riding on this next week of baseball.

Game 1: Toronto Blue Jays @ New York Yankees – Saturday, July 26

There are so many big series this weekend in the American League, it’s almost hard to keep track of everything. The Blue Jays and Yankees enter the weekend immersed in what has become a very open race with the Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, and Kansas City Royals for the second wild card spot in the American League, with the Tampa Bay Rays entering the race due to their hot play over the past few weeks. The Blue Jays and Yankees are not too far behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East, but their first concern must be to finish in second place in the division, so that the second wild card spot is attainable. The Los Angeles Angels will grab the first spot, unless they manage to pass the Oakland Athletics in the American League West.

In this game on Saturday afternoon, Toronto will send Drew Hutchison to the mound against Shane Greene of the Yankees. These are both promising pitchers, and they have different stories to tell. Hutchison’s ERA is 4.54, but he’s been pitching all season and is now familiar to opposing hitters, which is why his ERA is higher. Greene has a 2.79 ERA, but he’s made only three starts this season and will be hit harder the more he’s seen by other batters. However, Greene is still too new to the Blue Jays right now. He’ll probably be able to remain one step ahead of Toronto’s batting order. Pick the Yankees as a result.

MLB Betting Pick: New York Yankees

Game 2: Cleveland Indians @ Kansas City Royals – Saturday, July 26

These teams were mentioned above, and they’re both jostling for position in their own division as well. They would both like to catch the Detroit Tigers, but the first priority is to get second place, so that the second wild card is still realistic. In this game, Zach McAllister goes to the bump for the Indians, while Jeremy Guthrie is the starter for the Royals. McAllister pitched well this past weekend against Detroit, but his ERA is still 5.28. Guthrie’s ERA is better, at 4.56. Can McAllister pitch another really good game? It’s possible, but you wouldn’t want to bet in that direction. Take Kansas City.

MLB Betting Pick: Kansas City

Game 3: Detroit Tigers @ Los Angeles Angels – Saturday, July 26

The final game on this slate is another sexy matchup between two of the top teams in the American League. The Tigers and Angels continue their four-game weekend series with a battle between veteran Justin Verlander of Detroit and L.A. pitcher Matt Shoemaker. Verlander has been there and done that in his long career, but he had surgery in the offseason and has not been physically fit this season. He brings a 4.84 ERA into this game. Shoemaker has started only 10 times and has an unimpressive 4.54 ERA. Expect a ton of runs in this game, with the Angels banging out more big hits than the Tigers.

MLB Betting Pick: Los Angeles Angels
