Every Team Takes The Field For Friday’s MLB Action

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 5/1/2014 10:45:02 PM

Every major league baseball team is in action at some point on Friday, meaning baseball fans will have plenty of options for wagering and watching. Some games are more desirable than others, however, and below I will be previewing three of the more enticing Friday baseball games.

St. Louis Cardinals @ Chicago Cubs

Friday May 2, 2014 – 2:20 PM ET

The St. Louis Cardinals haven’t gotten off to the dominating start many thought they would, but they’re still above .500 and are sending ace Adam Wainwright to the mound against Travis Wood and the Chicago Cubs. Wainwright has continued his dominance on the hill this season, as he’s 5-1 already with a 1.20 ERA in six starts. He had one shaky start against the Cubs three weeks ago, but since then he’s thrown 24 innings of scoreless baseball and makes the Cardinals the obvious favorite heading into this matchup. While Wainwrights opponent hasn’t been dominant in 2014, Wood has a 3.52 ERA, and his 1-3 record is more a reflection of a lack of run support. The Cubs have a few front of the rotation starters, but their offense is below average, and the reason they will lose this game.

Pick: Cardinals

Seattle Mariners @ Houston Astros

Friday May 2, 2014 – 8:10 PM ET

The Seattle Mariners showed they’re trying to contend now when they signed Robinson Cano to a 10-year deal, but they’re 11-14 so far this season in one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball. They need to start winning soon, and with Felix Hernandez on the mound that shouldn’t be too tall a task. Hernandez is 3-1 this year with a 2.40 ERA, but he has yet to have a scoreless outing. His last game against the Texas Rangers was his worst of the season, but the Astros have scored the second fewest runs in the majors this season, and are sending Brad Peacock to the mound, a righty who is 0-2 this year with a 5.95 ERA, making the Mariners the obvious sports betting pick.

Pick: Mariners

Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians

Friday May 2, 2014 – 7:05 PM ET

Believe it or not, but the Chicago White Sox have scored the second most runs in the major leagues this season. The Colorado Rockies are first, and are helped by their thin home field air, but the White Sox have greatly benefitted from the signing of Jose Abreu as the rookie first basemen is hitting .270 this year with an league leading 10 home runs. The White Sox also have four everyday starters hitting over .300, and with John Danks on the mound they shouldn’t be too worried about beating the Cleveland Indians. The Indians are currently last in the AL Central, and with Danny Salazar on the mound with his 6.04 ERA the Indians are likely looking at another loss.

Pick: White Sox
