Every Team Takes The Field For Friday's MLB Action

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 5/29/2014 9:09:12 PM

All 30 major league baseball teams will be in action Friday night, so fans and sports bettors alike will have plenty of games to choose from. Some present an obvious pitching advantage, but others are evenly matched and likely to be a grind it out game for whoever emerges victorious. Either way, Friday is loaded with plenty of exciting baseball action, and below are previews for three of the more notable games of the day.

Texas Rangers @ Washington Nationals
Friday May 30, 2014 – 7:05 PM ET

The Washington Nationals made some last minute pitching changes, and as a result Stephen Strasburg will take the mound on Friday to face the Texas Rangers and Colby Lewis. Strasburg has been getting slightly more run support this year than he did last, and as a result he's 3-4 with a 3.42 ERA through his first 11 starts. His opponent on the other hand is 4-3, but has a 5.10 ERA through eight games and is unlikely to enter a pitching dual with the ace of the Nationals team. The Rangers have been one of the hottest hitting teams as of late, but they were nearly shutdown by Kyle Gibson and the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, and Strasburg presents much more of a challenge than an inconsistent second-year player.

Pick: Nationals

Atlanta Braves @ Miami Marlins
Friday May 30, 2014 – 7:10 PM ET

The Miami Marlins have been one of the nicer surprises of the season as they are 28-25 and just a half game behind the first place Atlanta Braves, making this Friday match-up all the more important. The Braves have rebounded nicely from a slow start, but the NL East is still up for grabs and whoever wins this game will have just a slight upper hand on the competition. The Braves however will have the early advantage as Julio Teheran will take the mound against Tom Koehler, who has a 3.10 ERA in just his second major league season. That however isn't good enough to give the Marlins the advantage as Teheran holds a 1.77 ERA through 11 starts and is becoming one of the most dominant pitchers in the National League. The Marlins have been hitting the ball well all season and rank sixth in the majors in runs scored, but they will have a tough time touching Teheran on Friday and will likely lose because of it.

Pick: Braves

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Friday May 30, 2014 – 10:10 PM ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates had a magical 2013 season, but so far this year they've been unable to have the same success and currently sit in fourth place in the NL Central with a 23-29 record. Friday however will be a tough time to turn things around as they will be facing Josh Beckett, who just recorded the first no-hitter of the 2014 season in his last start, and aside from Andrew McCutchen the Pirates have no player hitting over .285 on the roster. The Pirates will be sending Francisco Liriano to the mound, which is not promising news considering the lefty is 0-5 with a 5.06 ERA just one season after posting a 16-8 record and 3.02 ERA. Liriano has been one of the most inconsistent pitchers in the majors during his eight-year career, and for that reason the Dodgers are my pick to win this Friday match-up.

Pick: Dodgers
