2014 MLB Betting – Picks For Wednesday, July 9

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 7/8/2014 10:21:21 PM

There’s an energy flowing through dugouts in Major League Baseball right now, and it’s the wave of energy that comes from players who know that they need to make a hard push this week, after which they can rest and take a few days off for the All-Star break. It’s time to compete.

Game 1: Chicago White Sox @ Boston Red Sox – Wednesday, July 9

This game is one in which it’s going to be very hard to bet on Boston. The Red Sox have been a largely terrible hitting team this year. Their offense has been shut down by all sorts of pitchers whom you’d think would not be able to dominate a game very often. The Red Sox nearly got no-hit by the Chicago Cubs at home, and not by Jeff Samardzija, either, before the righthander was traded to the Oakland Athletics. The Red Sox have been thirsting for run production pretty much throughout the entirety of the season. David Ortiz has smacked some clutch home runs for this team and has done his share, but he hasn’t had any real help from the rest of the batting order.

Now, in this game, the Red Sox are going to be challenged by Chicago staff ace Chris Sale. The White Sox’ main hurler has been his typically strong self this season, using his tall frame and whipping lefthanded delivery to baffle opposing hitters, primarily by generating excellent velocity while also being able to disguise his release point, which prevents hitters from being able to gauge the level of spin on a pitch. Sale should be able to overpower the Red Sox, who haven’t even announced a starting pitcher in their own right for this game.

MLB Betting Pick: Chicago White Sox

Game 2: Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets – Wednesday, July 9

These teams are in different leagues, not in terms of American and National, but in terms of quality. The Braves had used a nine-game winning streak to get a bit of a cushion in the National League East, while the Mets have been floundering recently, as they’ve tended to do over the past few years. Yet, New York was able to pull off a win in the first game of this series on Monday night. Does this mean the Mets could surge this week? Possibly. However, the smarter money suggests that the Braves will be able to turn things around with Ervin Santana getting the start against the Mets’ Dillon Gee. Santana’s ERA is a bit higher, at 3.93 compared to Gee’s 2.73 mark. However, Santana was excellent in his last start, giving up only two runs in 7 1/3 innings against Arizona. If that version of Santana shows up, the Braves should be fine.

MLB Betting Pick: Atlanta

Game 3: Houston Astros @ Texas Rangers – Wednesday, July 9

The Rangers are sliding downward, so the Astros, who clobbered Texas on Monday in the first game of this series, might be able to win again. Yet, this game is a start for Texas’ ace, Yu Darvish. The Rangers shouldn’t be trusted on most nights, but Darvish is the exception to the rule. Take Darvish over Houston and starter Dallas Keuchel.

MLB Betting Pick: Texas
