David Price Headlines Friday's MLB Action in Tampa Bay Rays Uniform

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 7/24/2014 10:47:07 PM

David Price is one of the biggest names left on the MLB trade market, and with the trade deadline looming just around the corner it's likely he takes the mound on Friday in a Tampa Bay Rays uniform for the last time this season. It's still an unknown where he will be playing ball in a month from now, but one thing is for certain and it's that the Boston Red Sox will be engaged in a pitcher’s duel against the Rays late Friday night.

Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays

Friday July 25, 2014 – 7:10 PM ET

Although all eyes will be on Price, Jon Lester is having a great season of his own and is 10-7 with a 2.50 ERA this season and gives the Red Sox a legitimate chance to beat their division rival and gain ground on the Baltimore Orioles. Price has the same record as Lester, but his ERA is just a tad higher even though he's allowed zero runs in his last two outings totaling 16 innings pitched. Lester has been just as hot lately making this a must-watch game that will likely be a low scoring one decided late. Neither team has hit the ball well this season, but the Red Sox have their fair share of power bats in the lineup as well as some young talent giving them a slight edge over the Rays Friday night.

Pick: Red Sox

Oakland Athletics @ Texas Rangers

Friday July 25, 2014 – 8:05 PM ET

Jason Hammel is scheduled to make his third start for the Oakland Athletics this season and hopefully it goes better than his first two as he lasted a total of jut seven innings and gave up just as many runs. He was a lights out top of the rotation man for the Chicago Cubs just a few weeks ago, but Oakland will need more out of him if they truly hope to make a World Series run. His opponent on the mound will be Nick Tepesch, the righty pitcher for the Texas Rangers who is 3-6 with a disappointing 4.87 ERA. Tepesch is seeing time on the mound because of the numerous injuries to Rangers pitchers, but it's likely he is handed his seventh loss of the season on Friday as the Athletics have scored the most runs in the majors this season and have the fifth highest on base percentage.

Pick: Athletics

Baltimore Orioles @ Seattle Mariners

Friday July 25, 2014 – 10:10 PM ET

Although the Baltimore Orioles are in first and the Seattle Mariners in third in their respective divisions, they have near identical records this season and may be playing a lopsided game Friday evening. Felix Hernandez will be taking the mound for the Mariners, meaning his 2.02 ERA may fall even more as The King is coming off a seven inning outing against the Los Angeles Angels in which he struck out nine and allowed zero runs. The reason this could be lopsided is because Kevin Gausman will be taking the mound for the Orioles, and the second-year pro is 4-3 with a 4.04 ERA through eight starts. Gausman is just a filler arm at the major league level, whereas Hernandez is leading the AL Cy Young race with 11 wins entering Friday's match-up.

Pick: Mariners
