2015 MLB Baseball Betting – Picks For Games On Thursday, June 25

Posted by Dale “Skip” Lalonde on 6/24/2015 9:46:19 PM

The Major League Baseball season is closing in on the end of June, which also means it is nearing the exact halfway point of the 162-game season. Here are three games to look at on Thursday night.

Cincinnati Reds @ Pittsburgh Pirates - Thursday, June 25

This is a game between two teams heading in very different directions. The Pirates have the best record in Major League Baseball over the past month -- no team has been better since May 22 than the Bucs. Cincinnati, meanwhile, is several games under the .500 mark. The Reds are out of the mix in the National League Central, languishing in fourth place and being saved from the cellar only because the Milwaukee Brewers are even worse. The directions of these two teams were made plain on Tuesday night. Cincinnati roared to a 4-1 lead over the Pirates but promptly lost the lead and made a whole host of mistakes that let Pittsburgh back into the contest. Pittsburgh gained a 7-5 lead and survived a late solo homer by the Reds to take a 7-6 win at home. Pittsburgh has regularly been able to dig out close wins over the past month. The Pirates swept a series (against Philadelphia in which they scored just six runs in 33 innings and three games. They won three one-run games and managed to hold the Phillies to only three total runs in those 33 innings. That's the kind of thing Pittsburgh's been doing for most of the past five weeks, and it's a very good reason to recommend the Pirates over the Reds here on Thursday evening.

MLB Betting Pick: Pittsburgh

St. Louis Cardinals @ Miami Marlins - Thursday, June 25

The Cardinals are in a bit of a precarious position here, if only because starting pitcher Lance Lynn is making this outing after sitting on the disabled list for awhile. Lynn could be something of a wild card here. It will be hard to predict his performance for the Cardinals. He has a 3.07 ERA and has been very good for St. Louis, but will we see the good version of Lynn in this game? It's hard to tell. Miami will go with Dan Haren, who has put together a solid season so far in 2015, with an ERA of just 3.19. The differential in ERAs is small enough that Lynn's return from the disabled list should be seen as the kind of question mark which tips the betting equation the other way. Trust Haren more than Lynn here, even though Lynn has been the slightly better pitcher this year. If these teams were meeting without Lynn's injury issues, it would be so much easier and more logical to pick St. Louis.

MLB Betting Pick: Miami

New York Yankees @ Houston Astros - Thursday, June 25

The laws of averages here suggest that the Astros are going to win. Adam Warren is the starter for New York, a decent pitcher who has turned in a quietly good year for the Pinstripes. Warren has a 3.62 ERA and has not been often victimized by big innings. Houston, though, has Dallas Keuchel on the mound, and Keuchel has been great at home this season, posting a 1.62 ERA based on over 55 innings of work. Keuchel struggled in his last start against Seattle, giving up more runs than in any of his previous nine starts. You would expected Keuchel to regroup and pitch brilliantly, in which case Houston should triumph.

MLB Betting Pick: Houston
