Dodgers, Cardinals Among Best Bets On The Board For Saturday’s NL Action

Posted by on 6/27/2015 3:04:24 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers have owned the top two records in the National League for some time now but with the Washington Nationals heating up again three will certainly be a crowd when it comes to determining the best in the NL this season. Meanwhile, the New York Mets can’t afford to fall further behind the Nationals in the NL East and they have a favorable matchup on Saturday as they look to turn things around. Here is a look at the best bets on the board for Saturday’s NL action.

Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets

Saturday, 4:10 PM ET

Pitching has always been the key to the Mets success this season but even with some elite stuff from their top arms there is no guarantee they win. Matt Harvey has allowed one earned run over his last 13.2 innings of work while striking out 11 and yet New York split those games including a 1-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves. The Mets certainly can’t afford to lose when Harvey makes his next start on Friday and while Michael Lorenzen has recorded a 3.65 ERA in 11 appearances for the Reds this season they should be able to score enough runs off him to secure a New York win.

Pick: New York

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Miami Marlins

Saturday, 4:10 PM ET

The Dodgers have been fortunate that the defending champion San Francisco Giants have been headed in the wrong direction as well of late as this team continues to blow opportunities to separate itself at the top of the NL West. They should be able to get in to the win column on Saturday with Clayton Kershaw getting the nod against Miami. Kershaw is coming off consecutive losses but even in those defeats he only gave up three runs and he should bounce back against the Marlins inconsistent offense. Tom Koehler is expected to start Saturday despite a nagging neck injury but don’t expect him to outduel Kershaw in this matchup.

Pick: Los Angeles

Chicago Cubs @ St. Louis Cardinals

Saturday, 7:15 PM ET

The Cubs have played some pretty good baseball this season but with the Cardinals leading the majors in wins and the Pittsburgh Pirates playing at such a high level making the playoffs out of the NL Central won’t be easy. Chicago has the chance to cut in to St. Louis’ division lead this weekend but they have yet to name a starter for Saturday’s game and whoever it is will have a tough time matching up with Michael Wacha for the Cardinals. Wacha is 9-3 this season and despite giving up four earned runs or more in two of his last three starts he still has a solid 2.85 ERA. Look for Wacha to buckle in in this one and deliver a much stronger performance than we have seen from him of late while the St. Louis bats give him just enough support to get back in the win column.

Pick: St. Louis
