Corbin Tries To Move To 10-0 As First-Place Diamondbacks Host The Giants

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 6/6/2013 7:03:46 PM

In the course of a Major League Baseball season, you’re going to find some pretty remarkable developments, and it’s hard to find a bigger one than Patrick Corbin being a 9-0 pitcher.

San Francisco Giants @ Arizona Diamondbacks – Friday, June 7
Sport betting line: no line

Why San Francisco Will Win

When the best online betting sites tackle this clash, they will view it as a tough one to pick. The Arizona Diamondbacks are leading the pack in the National League West, but then again, it’s only the first half of June, and the San Francisco Giants are the defending World Series champions, a team that does not figure to panic as the season moves along.
Yes, it’s true that San Francisco did not make the playoffs in 2011, as the Diamondbacks unseated them in the National League West. However, is history really going to repeat itself in 2013 by unfurling the same pattern? The odds suggest otherwise. San Francisco is still a team that deserves a lot of trust from a betting standpoint. The Giants still have the hitting and defense that can keep them in the hunt throughout the season.

There’s no question that San Francisco has underperformed through the first nine weeks of the season, chiefly because its formidable starting pitchers aren’t really that formidable at the moment. Matt Cain, an elite pitcher in the sport, is not acting like an elite pitcher this season. His ERA is 5.45, and he got roughed up in his most recent start.

However, Cain has such electric stuff and such a pronounced reputation as a big-time pitcher that he can turn the switch “on” at any moment. Everyone in the Giants organization is waiting for Cain’s revival. If it happens in this game, San Francisco should win.

The other thing that has to be pointed out about this game is that Arizona starting pitcher Patrick Corbin is 9-0. He’s been one of the foremost reasons that the Diamondbacks have been able to rise to first place in the National League West. However, with that having been said, Corbin is going to lose at some point. He’s going to get touched up by opposing hitters at some point. He’s going to run into difficulties at some point. You know the Giants want to be the team that will get to him.

Why Arizona Will win

This is not poker, but the way Patrick Corbin has been dealing this year has been a revelation to Arizona fans. Corbin has only 28 career starts to his credit, and he entered this season with only 17, but in 11 starts in 2013, Corbin is 9-0 with a tiny 2.06 ERA. He’s been phenomenal for manager Kirk Gibson, and he’s going to feel very confident heading into this game against the D-Backs’ foremost divisional rival. Corbin, pitching at home, should have a lot of adrenaline and will therefore get great velocity and movement on his pitches. You wouldn’t want to trust San Francisco starter Matt Cain in this game, either, given his season-long struggles.

Who Will Win?

The odds say that Corbin is going to lose in the next month or so, but will it be this night? Matt Cain has to show that he can pitch better before a baseball bettor should trust him. Go with Arizona here.
