How To Bet On Giants Braves - Pressure Falls Evenly On Atlanta And San Francisco

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 7/13/2012 3:43:01 PM

The Atlanta Braves and the San Francisco Giants are both in second place by a narrow margin in their respective divisions. They'll try to make a push in the standings next week.

San Francisco Giants @ Atlanta Braves – Series Overview

Game 1: Tuesday, July 17

If you are interested in betting on baseball this season, the upcoming three-game midweek series between Atlanta and San Francisco should offer a compelling collision between two winning ballclubs. Jair Jurrjens is Atlanta's starter in the first game of this set. He has a 4.97 earned-run average, which might initially seem to be cause for considerable concern, but Jurrjens – who was injured in late April and spent two months on the shelf – has been very strong since returning to Atlanta's starting rotation. Jurrjens has pitched 25 1/3 innings in four starts since returning from his injury. He's allowed only six earned runs in those four starts. That's an earned-run average of well under three runs.

The Giants, whose starting staff is in a pronounced state of flux, has not been settled on for two of the three games in this series. Manager Bruce Bochy is thinking long and hard about how to arrange his rotation after the four-day break provided by the All-Star Game. This bit of uncertainty could produce Matt Cain as the Giants' starter in this contest, but unless San Francisco does indeed go with its ace, Atlanta has to be seen as the favorite in this game. Go with the Braves in the opener of this series on Tuesday evening.

Game 2: Wednesday, July 18

The when you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this second game of the three-game series, you will be flying blind… at least if you make your bet right now and do not wait until Sunday or Monday, when the starting pitchers have been announced by Bochy and Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez. Yes, it's true: Currently, neither team has provided a probable starting pitcher. This game, in the absence of more information, becomes something of a coin flip. The Braves have more momentum, though, after sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies on the road before the All-Star break. The Giants, on the other hand, got roughed up at Pittsburgh. Atlanta is a slight choice in game two on Wednesday night.

Game 3: Thursday, July 19

In the finale of this series, the Braves will send right-handed starter Tim Hudson to the bump. Hanson has posted a 3.56 earned-run average to this point in the season,. On the other hand, Madison Bumgarner has been even better for the pitching staff of the Giants. Bumgarner has posted a 3.27 ERA and has proved to be a thoroughly reliable core member of the San Francisco rotation.  The added fact that Bumgarner knows he'll be starting on Thursday in this early-afternoon (12:10 p.m. Eastern time) game should mean that he'll be adequately prepared. The sense here is that Bumgarner will outduel Hudson in a Giant victory.
