How To Bet On Indians Cardinals – Indians Stumble On The Road

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 6/1/2012 3:15:47 PM

The Cleveland Indians may not be selling out games the way Chris Perez would prefer, but if they continue to win they are destined to have at least a couple of packed houses once the playoffs begin. The Indians are right behind the Chicago White Sox for top spot in the American League Central, and still in the run for an AL Wild Card spot should they not catch them, so there is reason for optimism in Cleveland. Next on the schedule is a three-game trip to play the St. Louis Cardinals, and it won’t help Perez to see another sold out crowd full of fans make their way out to see the defending World Series champions.

Surprisingly, the Indians are one of only a couple of teams that have been better on the road than at home this season, although it should be noted that for a team that ranks near the bottom of the league in ERA allowed and also has been below average in terms of offensive production, this team has overachieved. Josh Tomlin will get the start for Cleveland in the series opener, and while he has battled to keep his ERA down below 5.00, the team has won the last three games that he has started. That betting sites streak could end with 25-year old Lance Lynn on the mound for the Cardinals. Lynn is 8-1 with a 2.54 ERA, and if the St. Louis offense gets to Tomlin, Lynn should have no problem holding it down for the win.

It won’t get much easier for the Indians in game two with Jake Westbrook on the mound for St. Louis, although the Cardinals’ starter allowed 11 combined runs through two starts before the last time he took the mound. Cleveland’s Justin Masterson has been decent at times this season, but his inconsistency has hurt him and he limps in to this game with a 5.14 ERA. Perhaps this is the game that he puts it together with a strong effort, as the Indians do enough on the struggling Westbrook to even the sports bet series.

It hasn’t helped the Indians this season that Ubaldo Jimenez has struggled so badly, even though he has gotten enough run support to get to 5-4 despite a 5.79 ERA. Jimenez missed a start as he was given some time to rest and work on his mechanics, and while that should help in the long run, it won’t mean much against one of the league’s best offenses in St. Louis. The Cardinals will send Kyle Lohse to the mound opposite Jimenez as they look to close out the three-game set with a win. Lohse is 5-1 with a 3.36 ERA, and he is overdue for a win after being left with a no decision in each of his last four sportsbook starts.
